Jennie had always been able to see them. She could even touch them. Make them physical. But she chose to ignore them, for her own safety. She had learned that the hard way. At least they couldn't move far enough to follow her.

Jennie walked up to her apartment door for the millionth time, she had the last box in her arms. She fumbled with getting the key into the lock. Should've just left it open, she grumbled in her thoughts. Finally, she pushed the door open and dropped the box into the living room. She kicked off her shoes and collapsed onto the couch.

"Moving sucks," she breathed to herself. Sunlight streamed in from the balcony as Jennie's stomach growled. It was currently time for lunch, and she had exchanged breakfast for moving boxes. She was hungry, tired, and in a desperate need for a shower.

The doorbell rang loudly, giving the exhausted girl a headache. She also was not in the mood for socialization, but she pushed herself off the couch and swayed towards the door. She ran a hand through her hair in a small attempt to fix her messy hair before opening the door.

"Hi, we're your next door neighbors! I'm Lisa and this is Rosé, we're roommates." she held a paper plate of brownies.
"If you have any questions about the area, we're right next door." Rosé said, pointing down the hall.

A shorter girl pushed her way in front of Lisa. "I'm Nayeon. I live two doors down from you. We're having a small welcome party for you tonight at my place, if you're not busy."

"Uh..." Jennie's mouth struggled to reply. "Should I bring anything?"
She hadn't realized it, but to the other girls she looked intimidating. Her facial expression stayed poker and slightly annoyed.

"Um, you don't have to. We baked you some brownies because you probably spent all morning moving boxes." Lisa said, handing Jennie the plate. Instantly, her face lightened with even a hint of a smile.

"Thanks, I'm starving."

"We'll leave you to unpack. The party starts at eight!" Rosé said before lightly shoving the other girls away. Jennie shut the door and let out a sigh. She set the plate on the coffee table and sat on the couch, head in her hands.

She arched her neck, eyes closed. A few moments later, she stood up and pulled on her sneakers. Before leaving the apartment, she tugged on a black leather jacket to accommodate to the autumn weather. She grabbed her keys and left to get some food.
Fifteen minutes later, Jisoo came downstairs and saw something strange. Boxes and... brownies? Someone was moving in. No one had lived here for almost four years because of the situation. Most people did all the work of moving in, and then once they heard the story, they were out before Jisoo could even learn their name.

She hoped that the person moving in didn't believe in ghosts. Jisoo was getting lonely. Sure, the mortal moving in couldn't speak to her, but it was better than roaming around an empty house for the rest of her death.
She waded out onto the balcony and sat down. A few drops of rain fell from the sky. Clouds blocked the sun and more raindrops splashed through the ghost girl and hit the wood balcony. Jisoo looked up at the gray clouds and wished that she could feel the raindrops hit her face and drench her hair.
But most of all, she wished she knew what she looked like. She could barely remember anything from her life except for the pain of her death. When she was murdered.
Suddenly, she heard a door slam and a curse ring out. She jumped to her feet. The new owner of the apartment was a girl. She stepped through the glass door and examined the girl as she bent down to take her shoes off. She had black hair. The black-haired girl stood up and stared Jisoo straight in the eye. The girl has this unique cat like eyes.

Jisoo flinched. Was it possible that...

"Hello? Can you see me? You just- you just looked me straight in the eye!" Jisoo called out. It had been a while since the ghost used her voice. The cat-eyed girl turned away and put her plastic bag on the kitchen island.
"Please," Jisoo lowered her voice. It was no use. The girl couldn't see her.

Jennie opened the door to her apartment and felt it instantly. Someone died here? At first, she couldn't find it. But then she saw the blurb of a transparent blue on the balcony. She took a deep breath, but accidentally slammed the door shut.

"Shit," she wasn't prepared yet, and she knew that it was making its way towards her. She crouched down to untie her shoes and to make more time for herself. She could see the ghost's feet, slightly glowing.
She was ready now. She stood up and looked at... it's a girl? Startled, Jennie stared for too long.

"Hello? Can you see me? You just- you just looked me straight in the eye!"
She tore her eyes away and set the grocery bag on the kitchen island. She needed to calm down. What was wrong with a ghost girl? No different than a ghost boy, right?

"Please," the ghost whispered. Jennie took out the cup noodles from the bag, then gripped the counter. This was not going well. She needed to take a shower to calm her nerves. The ghost followed her up the stairs, but stopped when she went into the bathroom.

At least she respects privacy, Jennie thought. She took off her clothes and stepped into the shower, grateful for the warm water.

Jisoo stopped outside the bathroom. She sat on the floor, her mind whirling. She leaned against the door, when she realized that she accidentally went through it. The second she saw the girl taking off her shirt, her face burned up and she brought her head out of the bathroom.

While waiting, Jisoo kept replaying that scene where their eyes met. She shivered slightly at the thought. Could the girl really see her? She desperately hoped so.

-

Jennie stepped out of the shower with a towel and realized her mistake. She forgot to bring a change of clothes. Was the ghost still waiting outside the door? She tightened the towel and opened the door. Of course, she was sitting on the ground, right there.
Should I just walk through her?
Before she could think of an idea, the ghost sprang to her feet, flustered. Jennie tried her best to pretend that the girl wasn't there. She rummaged through a box of clothes while the ghost floated through the ground and down to the first floor. Jennie let out a breath when she finally found an outfit.
She went downstairs and made herself lunch, which was ramen. The ghost was nowhere to be found as Jennie opened her laptop and ate on the couch. Her manuscript was due next week, and she had no time to procrastinate.

And then the ghosts head appeared on Jennie's keyboard. It took a lot to continue typing, but it got even worse when the ghost's hands started reaching for her face. Jennie stood up, breathing rapidly.
She covered up her panic by throwing away the ramen container. She checked the time. 2:37. Jennie didn't want to work on her manuscript with the risk of the ghost doing that again. She sighed, then walked up the stairs for a nap. Unpacking could wait. She collapsed on the bed, staring at the ceiling.
She closed her eyes and turned to the side.

Jisoo assumed the girl was asleep before she laid down beside her. She studied the girl's facial features while she slept. Ghosts can't leave the place where they died. The second a ghost steps out of the border of their area, they'll vanish.

The girl looked peaceful. Jisoo wanted so bad to talk to her. To become her friend. The ghost, slowly but surely, hugged the sleeping girl and put her head in the crook of her neck. She closed her eyes and could almost imagine the girl's scent.
