Impossibly meant to be

The plan

A day goes by. We haven't spoken about it. Am I supposed to bring it up first? Maybe i'm supposed to ask. But, what if she isn't ready? Maybe Alex will help. "Hey alex, I need advice." I say putting down my guitar. "Yeah what's up?" He replies sticking his sticks away. "Julie and I haven't spoken about the song or what happened. I don't know if i'm supposed to say something?" I say. I'm upset with myself a little bit. What if i've been making her wait? "I think you should go straight in and ask if you think you would want to be in the relationship. She probably does. I can ask her." He said. He started to look at Willie who looked like he wanted to say something. I gave him a look. "Do you want a relationship?" He asked me. "Of course. That's all I want." I reply. My face is red. He smiles. "Alex can ask Julie if she wants one but then it's up to you what you do after that." Reggie said. I smile at them. "Thanks guys." They smile. It's nice having friends who help out. I know what i'm going to do. I am going to ask her out. But, I want to make it special. Maybe a song? No. I cant do that. She did that. I'll just ask. "I have the best idea." I say to the guys. "Remember when we were walking around with Julie and Flynn at the mall and she pointed out this ring and said it was really pretty?" I stand up. They nod. "I can get her that. Like a promise ring. What do you guys think?" Alex smiles and pats my shoulder. "That's perfect." He said. I smile. "You got this man!" Reggie exclaimed. " I will ask Julie if she wants a relationship while your getting the ring okay. Be back at 3 three. Take Reg. Me and Willie will stay here, ask, and tell her yiur at the Orpheum." Alex said walking towards Willie. I smile. "Thanks man." He nods. "Now go guys! It's two already." He motions towards the door. I laugh. Reggie and I get to the mall. "Is this considered stealing?" Reggie said. I laugh. "We're dead, Reggie. I don't think this counts for anything." We laugh. I get the ring and put in a little box with a letter. The ring is so pretty. Gold, the letter "J" engraved in the middle with three diamonds on each side. "She'll love it." Reggie said. "Especially since she picked it out." We laugh and start walking out. "It's 2:57" I say. We pop back into the yard. Reggie looks through the window for Willie to signal we can go in. I hide the ring in my pocket. We're clear. "Hey guys." I say. "Hey" Julie says. "How was the Orpheum?" Alex asked making his 'go with it' face. "Great year we had a two person performance." Reggie said. Everyone laughed. "Want to rehearse? Luke and I worked on two more songs on Monday." Julie said. I smile. "Let's do it." I say. "I'm going to get going! I'll be back later." Willie says. "Bye." He walks out the door. We start practicing the first song we did. It sounds good. We keep doing that until eventually Julie has to go to sleep. When she leaves, Alex starts smiling automatically. "She does dude." He says. "She said she wants the relationship but she didn't know how to start that conversation." He finished. I feel my face turn red. "Really?" I say. He nods. "I knew it. Show Alex the ring again." Reggie says. I show him the ring. "No way that's perfect." He says. Alex wasn't at the mall with us at the point. He was with willie looking at drum sticks. Alex smiles. "When are you going to do it?" He asks. "Tomorrow. After school. We planned to go to the park to write songs." I say. "The school park? Why that's so public." Reggie said. "No not that one. The one no one goes to because everything is broken. It's quiet there so that's we're we go to write sometimes." I say. It was our place. We go there a lot to write. Reggie and Alex look at eachother. "How romantic." Alex says. "Stop." I say. We laugh. The next morning Julie says good morning as always and goes to school" I go to the park and lay some blankets down. I cant eat, but 20 minutes before she gets home I put a picnic basket there incase she gets hungry. She normally is and we never bring anything. "You ready man?" Alex asks. I nod. "Yeah I can do it." I say. I'm confident. She gets home in 5 minutes. "Don't stress. Act normal." Willie says. "You look a little bit like a tomato." Reggie said. I laugh. "Hey guys" The garage door opens. I didn't notice I was playing perfect harmony in the acoustic again. She smiles at me. "Are you ready to go write?" Julie asks me. "Yes. Whenever you are." I say. They boys smile. "Okay well be back in an hour." I say.  We head out and arrive at the park. "Blankets nice touch. The concrete was not doing any favors." We laughs. "Oh and food? I see you caught on to me forgetting to eat before we leave." She says. "Yes. Always hungry. I have caught on. But no judgement here I would be too if i could be." We bleh laugh again. We start writing. Once we decide to take a break, I grab the ring from my pocket.
