Owl sat cradling Ueta in the clearing, deep in his own thoughts. First about how he was going to raise the young fox, putting having a daughter before having a weapon, then second about what he was going to do in this strange place first. There had to be civilization somewhere, Ueta needed clothes, food, and shelter. As much as he wanted to protect her, he also needed to inform her of his decision and allow her to make her own. The last thing Owl wanted was to force a child to be somewhere they didn't want to be. He didn't think she had parents (if she did he would be having words with them about the condition of their child), but as of now the sun was rising and they needed to move. Given the winter setting she would need heavier clothes for the environment, not to mention shoes. Ueta's feet and hands were freezing and he could only hope she didn't have frostbite of any kind. It was then he noticed that the child herself had started to awake. Now would be as good a time as any to have his discussion. "Good morning, Ueta." Owl said as he made to release her from his arms to allow her space. As he set her down sitting upright she immediately wrapped her knees in her own arms and gave a slight yawn. "Good morning, Mister Owl." She said as her icy eyes met his face. Owl cocked a brow, "There's no need for any of that mister nonsense, Owl will do just fine" He concluded as he gave her a slight smile. She nodded and continued to gaze at him, as if she knew there was something remaining unsaid. He took a nearby twig and began to kindle the still burning flames of their bonfire as he spoke once more, "Now that you're awake there are a few things I'd like to ask you if that's okay with you". She nodded as her ears gave a slight twitch. "First of all where are your parents?" Ueta's ears flattened against her head as she looked towards the fire Owl continued to kindle. "I don't know" she spoke as there was a choked tone to her voice that suggested it had been that way for a while. Owl hummed in response as he decided to make his offer before asking anything else. "If that's the case then how would you like me to take you in as my own?" Her eyes immediately went wide as she stared at him in disbelief. "W-what?" She stuttered out not believing she had heard him correctly. "You will become my child, and I will raise you as my own" he stated clearly so that there was no mistaking his offer. Her eyes then began to tear up. "Why" was all she could manage in her emotional state. He closed his eyes and remembered the young wolf cub that he had failed, and said "Because you have no one else, and I would love to try my hand at parenting once more." She gazed at him, seemingly trying to decipher his answer, so he gave in and opened his eyes to her and met her gaze with one of his own. The fox's full of joy and eagerness, and the Owl's full of sorrow and resolve. Both shared one thing that made them understand each other better, hope. Owl's hope of being the Father that Ueta needed, and Uetas hope to finally have someone that would provide the care, love, and comfort she lacked for so long. Her mind made up she stood and made her way over to the kneeling Owl, their gazes never leaving each other's for a second as she stopped in right in front of him. They stood and stared at each other for what felt to them like an eternity before Ueta reached her hand out to Owl as he stared at her with a hint of ironic amusement now present in his eyes. He then placed his hand in the child's as she moved to appendage to her own face as Owl understood. This was her way of making sure the connection was made, and to her credit it worked. Owl embraced his new daughter as she returned it with fervor, as the sun fully rise and set the day in motion.
Their embrace ended as Owl stomped the fire out and made sure they left little trace. He turned to Ueta and asked "Would you happen to know if there are any towns nearby?" She responded with a nod and pointed in the direction of the town she came from. He looked at her and internally grimaced at her appearance. Uetas long hair was still dirty, matted, and unkempt, her shirt now had additional holes in it and she was sporting several cuts and scrapes along her legs, arms, and face. He looked at the lake and decided to take care of the hair problem and get it out of the way. He took Ueta's hand and led her over to the lake, he then asked her to late flat on her back with her head facing the lake. He took her hair in his hands and washed as much of the dirt and grime out of it as he could. Once he was satisfied he squeezed her hair to rid it of excess water while being careful to not tug at her scalp too much. He then took some string from his kit and used it to tie the back of her hair into a ponytail, and then he made a braid on the side of her hair and tucked most of her bangs into it. (AN: not the best at describing hair stuffs but it basically looks like the original picture now) Owl then dipped his fingers into the water and rubbed each of Ueta's ears clean as she was trying her best to not giggle because of how much it tickled. Once he was done he looked at her and smiled satisfied with his work. They both then started heading in the direction Ueta had pointed, hoping to find what they needed.
Second chapter is finished, hope everyone enjoyed and I'll see you once the next chapter is out.
