Close to Death.

The trees glistened with snow from the early morning snowfall. The stillness of the morning was so chilling it made my bones shake within me and my blood curdle. My toes started to go frigid from the snow on the ground surrounding my bare feet. I wiggled my toes, trying to keep my feet from getting frost bitten. I heaved a long sigh before going on the search for whatever's left of my clothing. Most of it was totally torn to shreds but I still had enough fabric left to cover the more "noticeable" parts of my naked body. Before I knew it, I was lying in a ball on the frozen ground shivering uncontrollably. I hoisted my self up on my elbows and started screaming at the sky.

" WHY NOW! " I tried to find something to grasp but all there was, was snow. The symptoms of hypothermia started to kick in. The closer to death I got the less human I became. To think it would only take an hour for hypothermia to take over my body. Well, I guess I can believe it, who wouldn't get hypothermia in January's -20 degree weather in Minnesota?

" Oh gosh! " my neck went flying forward from the instant snap in my spine. The pain tore through me like a wild beast ripping its prey. Instantly, I began laughing.

" Ha! New record, two shifts in one year! Even in the same day! Put that one in the scrapbook. " I said, making sure to emphasize my sarcastic tone. My fingers started to curl forward cutting into the hard ground. I screamed a painful cry. Tears started to roll down my face. My eyes burned as if someone sprayed acid in them. For a moment the pain instantly disappeared and peace crossed over me. I fell back to the ground and stared up at the snow glistened trees that had the sun shine just perfectly through them letting the rays of warmth hit my face and I began to smile, how beautiful this world can be when you least expect it. The words started to roll off my tongue and reminded me of that exact time and moment I first heard those words.

" You are what today's people would call a werewolf ... But truly there is no name for what you are. You are different than the others you are more soul than physical." At first I didn't really know what those words meant. But over time I learned that basically what those words meant was that when I started to become closer to death my soul would consume me and I would shift into a very large wolf." The darkness came and the pain was gone.
