If I could cut a slice of the universe's mind, it would be having my cake and eating it. The dull hum of the city rings in my ears; a quiet whisper morphed into white noise. Cars mindlessly pull up to the gas station a few yards from my apartment building and I am always compelled to stare squarely at them -- polished logos insignia of the vintage automobile boom. The station itself was a dull representation of futuristic glory, but dampened by the long tubes filled with petroleum and wires filled with electricity.
From the days already past, people had expected fuel to have died out like an internet trend, but really, the resources had survived somewhat.
And it is a Saturday today, the time 0930. Many a time have I woken up late on a Saturday feeling slightly more lonely than usual, but today I just feel a comfortable numbness. The sky is a mild cerulean flecked with clouds, I hold my cup of Milo while making this observation. As usual, the gas station is busy. It is the powerhouse of the country and no citizen can deny that. I do not mind hearing the revving of cars in and out of the place, as it fills my hollow mind with some kind of tangible sound.
I am still young, but lately most people have been thinking of youth a social construct. Those young in age have little light in their eyes, while many older folks are young at heart. What an irony, I must say.
I, myself, am 18 years old, and a really unremarkable teenager. Schooling days are way past me because the government made high school education until the age of 16 in 2045. So after I graduated, I also moved out of my family's home to start a new life in Santa Moriah. Now living in a colonial apartment complex, 1,525 square foot apartment with two bedrooms on the edge of Collins Hill, I am blessed. My parents own an animal breeding business; we're barely upper-class.
But the government has succumbed to the lulling of time, complacency and rot creeping into the electoral college and the parliament. Many my age do not have much to complain about the rules regarding education being changed, yet still find inadequacies to point out and complain about in their workings. Indeed, government officials have retired one by one, fire going out like a gust of wind blew them the kiss of old age.
Nonetheless, I sit and enjoy my space, a home for a youth working in a dilapidated society.
