She's just standing here watching the world, i.e. her world as it's screaming at the girl on the
phone. It was nine o'clock at night. The speaker is on and Barnes had left his window open earlier that morning, unaware of the eavesdropper across the street. Her shadow slightly glowing from behind her translucent curtains. It wasn't like Wanda was trying to eavesdrop or anything. The whole entire block could probably hear the diatribe spewing out of the device. The angered speaker, yet to be named, kept the insults and chaos coming, going on and on about everything that Bucky had apparently done wrong while Wanda leaned against the wall silently.
you're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset
After a while, Wanda started humming to herself and walking around her room. The girl was confined in the space by her own introversion. Unwilling to go downstairs and talk to her family. Steve and Pietro were good brothers. The best she could ever wish for, but they would know she was upset instantly, even the tiniest bit and they would investigate. They always knew. Sarah would know too, but she wouldn't pry. Ever since Sarah let them into her family years ago, she understood to wait for Wanda to tell her herself.
Pietro and Steve were a different story. They would ask her questions and try to make her feel better. Except, parties didn't make her feel good and neither did hour-long therapy sessions with Steve. They tried their best and she was grateful, but this wasn't something they could help with. Especially not Steve since Bucky has been his best friend for practically their whole lives.
Wanda turned around sharply, practically snapping her neck in the process, as the arguing was replaced with loud knocking and a very real sounding voice screeching. The girl carefully pushed aside her curtain to peek. Apparently sometime while she was stuck in her head, Miss Girlfriend herself had come by. Wanda knew who she was of course, everyone did, Dottie Underwood- varsity cheerleader as a freshmen, part-time model, a little daddy's girl, and most annoyingly Bucky Barnes' girlfriend of four months.
Wanda had no idea how she managed to transport herself onto the Barnes' front porch in record time with no way of transportation. She was only fifteen... unless it was her birthday? No, she would've known if it was her birthday. Wanda stared at the icy-eyed brunette as she thought about the ways she could've gotten there. There was no way Dottie Underwood, the Dottie Underwood, walked all the way from her mansion home to their suburban neighborhood. Maybe she had a chauffeur take her? No, she fired her other one the other day and made a huge scene in front of the school, because he was going too slow, five miles over the speed limit...
There was, however, an unfamiliar gold car sitting by the curb. By gold, I mean champagne gold, not just tinted metal, gold. I broke the fourth wall to explain how golden this freaking car is, gold gold. Car appearance aside, how in the world was Dottie driving at fifteen? Maybe she already had her license? Maybe her dad bribed the DMV? Or maybe she- oh someone let her inside. (i think im prematurely going senile, it's almost 3 sorry...)
Upstairs, the fighting started again. This time louder and more chaotic than it was on the phone. From what Wanda could understand, Bucky had said to his friend that she could be crazy at times? Huh, how weird is that? She never even let him respond and kept going on about how he always made her look bad and how their reputation was failing and blah, blah, blah stuff. Dottie screamed and every once in a while flipped her hair back in the snobby way that she had. It just got stupider and stupider and Wanda wanted to march over there and scream at her to stop being ridiculous and blaming it all on Barnes who didn't deserve any of it. Of course, she didn't, but she would've liked to.
she's going off about something you must've said.
This went on for hours. At half past eleven, Wanda made her way downstairs to say goodnight to everyone. The arguing was still audible, but more muffled from the first floor of the Rogers' two-storey house. Pietro was already asleep on the couch and Sarah had an early shift at the hospital the next day, so she had been sleeping since six.
