Right when Elia arrived to the bleachers, she came up to lean on the railing to get a good view of the field. Elia quite enjoyed watching quidditch games and watching her house' team practice, they where fun to watch and best part is, she didn't have to socialize with anyone. She was a proud Ravenclaw quidditch team supporter and she only watched their practices.
She thought about joining, but her being bad at flying always shot that idea down. But she always felt that flying aside, she would be pretty good.
she looked at all the adorable first- years coming to the tryout practice. The team was just flying a lap when she saw Charlie wave at her and smile. She waved back to be polite. She looked down at the field to see who's trying out for seeker, good god it was John Beineke, he was very whiny and annowying. Elia knew the team would have no choice but to pick him.
All of a sudden she heard footsteps coming from the stairs. She started to get a mini panic attack at the thought of having to interact with someone and thought about leaving, but realized her only escape was where the footsteps were coming from. She stayed still and just hoped whoever it was wouldn't want to talk to her.
She slightly looked over to see who it was and it was Fred Weasley in his quidditch uniform holding his broom, beater, and his leather gloves with the straps in his mouth. Now, there was no way he was going to not want to start a conversation with her. Well, maybe he wouldn't even be interested in one? Either way, she desperately wanted to get out of there.
She started to slowly inch herself far away from him so that she would be too far for him to want to talk to her or something when all of a sudden...
"Hey!" Fred called out trying to get her attention that he didn't even know he already had. Elia pretended she didn't hear and started to walk away, not even caring if she looked ridiculous.
"I know you can hear me" he started to run towards her and she eventually gave up and leaned on the railing she stopped at.
"Hey I know you," he said as he dropped his things to strap on his glove.
"no, I don't think you do," Elia said shaking her head.
"Yes I do, you sit with my brother George in muggle studies," he replied not being able to read the annoyance in her voice. Why was he even talking to her right now?
"ah do I?" Elia said just keeping her focuss on the players, hoping he'd go away at her uninterest. Still, Something told her that he wasn't going to go anywhere. He just leaned there strapping his gloves probably thinking their awkward tension was just comfortable silence.
"so are you thinking about joining quidditch?"
"I don't know" Elia responded blankly.
"do you like quidditch?"
"I don't know"
"do you know anyone on the team?"
"I don't know"
"have you ever played?"
"I don't know. Why are you asking so many questions?" Elia asked looking at him annoyed.
"Hm, I don't know," Fred said with a smug look causing her to make a very visible, irritable look.
"it's irritating, isn't it? Now let's start over. Where are you from?"
Elia gave him a bothered look then looked back at the team and bluntly answered "South West London". Fred gave a real satisfied smile, "Ahh, the muggle world. Do you like living there?"
"I don't kno-" Elia responded but stopped herself once she saw Fred give her a knowing look. she gave an irritable smile and then let out her breath she was holding. "erm... sure, I guess" Elia responded.
This was all very new to her and she started getting an irritated feeling in her stomach, not liking how she was do.
"really? why is that?" Fred asked picking up his broom to lean it on the railing.
"um... well I guess.... actually... No, I like the wizarding world more" Elia responded, now actually starting to put thought into what he was asking.
"what changed your mind?" Fred asked with his attention on the team as well.
"Well if one were to choose between a world with magic, and one without, I just think it'd be foolish to not choose the magic world"
"hm, I think my dad would choose the muggle world" Fred responded and Elia scoffed
¨Well tell him it's not all that. if you wanted a cup of tea, you have to fill something called a kettle up with water and wait a while for it to heat up, and if you needed to get something from a cupboard and it was too tall, then you'd have to find something to stand on that would make you tall enough to get it with the risk of falling, and if you were to break an arm, you'd have to wait months for it be back to norm-" Elia suddenly felt out of breath from talking so much and laughed to herself "I'll shut up now but yea"
"no, please keep going" Fred urged her with his slight smile.
"no no no no I was talking so much, that must've been annoying," Elia said laughing.
"well, that's how conversation works. One goes on and on about the topic and then the next person goes, have you ever been in a real conversation??" Fred asked jokingly.
"Well, I guess I haven't" Elia responded with a smile that quickly faded at the realization of what she unknowingly just admitted to herself. Once Fred noticed, a short silence fell between the two.
"Well, are you enjoying ours?" Fred asked trying to change the tone of the conversation. Elia took a deep breath then nodded "I am" and she gave a sad smile. "Then we should have more" Fred grinned back.
"HEY FRED! COME DOWN MATE WE HAVE A TEAM MEETING" George called out from the field beneath them.
"well looks like I'll be going now. Frederick Gideon Weasley, but you can call me Fred" he said and took out his hand to shake hers. Even though she's known him for years, this was officially their first time meeting, and that she hasn't really officially met someone since she was 11. she shook his hand and replied, "Eliana Meryll Quill, but you can call me Elia"
"Well, I'll see you around Elia"
Elia couldn't help but feel a small smile start to form. She just had her first one on one conversation, and she liked it.
Deep down, a part of her wanted to just take in this wonderful feeling and hold onto it forever and never let it go.
But she could never allow herself to do such a thing. She started to feel herself dangerously grow attached to this temporary feeling.
How pathetic. She knew she wasn't going to see him again so why was she happy?
Elia then shut down her ecstatic thoughts and brought her focus back to the team.
She finished the rest of the practice just sitting there, forcing herself to forget their conversation ever happened.
