Bunny Flatcreek.
Does anybody want to know what irks be to no end about my last name? It's the fact that it sounds like a fucking neighborhood, and my ass isn't flat at all. In reality, my ass is quite big. And that my friends, is why I wear these bomb-ass jeans to show it off, although, I was regretting wearing said jeans because I was sweating from all of the physical excursion my job requires.
I am fucking exhausted. Working at a top restaurant in the city was not at all what I wanted, but it paid off because I get to buy my own shit without Tony complaining. Cardi may not cook or clean, but I do both. The salary was just enough for me to buy clothes and any extra essentials I needed while still having time to do homework, and put Tony to bed after he passes out from stress and a beer or two.
Tony isn't bad, he's actually a pretty decent stepdad considering my mom passed away leaving all of her money to her ex-husband. We didn't have much then, and we don't have much now. Mom, and Tony both worked their asses off to make my childhood the best they could. Even now, Tony pushes his all just so I don't have to do all of the work. Tony works from 4 in the morning to around 10, from there he has a few drinks while watching football, then heads to bed and does it all over again in the morning. I barely see him, except for when he's dead asleep on his favorite recliner.
"Bunny,"
It's a shame that he works so hard.
"Bunny, get back to work," an irritated voice snaps me out of my reverie. I whip my head around to find the manager glaring at me, an impatient look set on his face. I acknowledge him with a smile on my face and brush past him and into the kitchen. I sigh looking at the employee across from me lost in oblivion while chopping some peppers and onions.
Hours later I'm finally finished and set to go home. I walk out back and quickly scout my keys in my bag to my 2010 Toyota Corolla. I climb into the car that smells faintly of dog and turn the ignition, excited to go home. I watch the road as I drive to a nearby pizza place, and order two large pepperonis. I grab a slice right as the boxes are set into my hands. The scent of mozzarella and cooked dough wafts into my nostril as I finish three pieces. I burp before glancing at the seat beside me, watching as my phone lights up with a notification. I gaze at the empty parking lot of the fast-food restaurant and yawn, as fatigue sets in. Damn, I'm wore out.
When I arrive home, everything feels weird. I hear our dog, Ramen, whining, and barking in distress. That finally when I realize, that the door is cracked open. I suck in a breath of chilly air and hold it there. I turn off all of my car lights and grab my pepper spray, and pocket knife from my bag. I open the car door quietly, keeping it open just in case I have to run. I climb the cracked, and weed-filled cement steps stealthily, Ramens cries becoming louder. I open the front door fast to avoid creaking. I do a sweep of the place with my eyes, sighing in relief when I see no one.
I look down and gasp at the sight in front of me. Tony lying face down with Ramens nose nudged under his armpit, like the sweetheart he is. I rush to Tony and roll him over, tear filling my eyes at the thought of my last living family member being dead. I stick two fingers under his jawline feeling for a pulse. Feeling for anything at this point. Wretched sobs force their way up my throat, and I look at Ramen through blurred eyes, pleading for help. I place my head on his chest listening for a heartbeat. I clench his t-shirt in my fists, tears and pleas' escaping me.
Eventually, the police show up. I don't know when and I don't know how. I vaguely remember being dragged to a police car in cuffs before I blackout from exhaustion Looks like tonight didn't go as planned.
