Chapter One
Thank god it’s Friday. I can’t wait to get out of this hell hole that I have the pleasure of calling a job. Looking up into the bathroom mirror I meet a pair of ice-blue eyes staring back at me. I never understood where I got my eyes from; I mean both my parents had brown eyes. Shaking the thought from my head I re-tie my long midnight black hair into a high pony tail and smooth down my skirt. After taking a deep breath I push the door open and step back out into the near empty building of the attorney’s office I work at. As I walk to my office I chant ‘just one more hour, you can do this’ over and over in my head. Now don’t get me wrong I love my job, I just can’t stand the man I work for. The son of a bitch thinks he can boss anyone around just because he signs everyone’s pay checks. Oh well hopefully I’ll be out of here soon enough, running my own attorney’s office.
Sitting at my desk I spin around in my chair trying to think of something to do to occupy myself for the last hour. Not having any more work to do and having no one around at this late hour I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to get back at my best friend, Cole, for his latest prank. You see my dearest friend Cole and I are your typical pranksters who are always trying to one up each other.
Getting out some glue and some clear tape I head over to Cole’s office and get to work. First I glued all the pen caps to the pens and then I put the clear tape over the mouth piece on his phone so his poor callers won’t be able to hear a word Cole says. After I finish up, I step back to look at my masterpiece and I can’t help but laugh to myself when I think about what Coles face is going to look like tomorrow when he can’t open any of his pens or talk on the phone. Looking at my watch I realized I successfully wasted my last hour at work and rush back to my office to grab my stuff.
God damn it should be illegal for this weather to be this cold. My usual 15 minute walk now seems like I’ve been walking for an hour. Alright Rayne let’s just think of the positives, when you get home you get to drink some nice warm tea and snuggle up on the couch in comfortable baggy clothes instead of this freaking skirt while watching reruns of Psych. Damn I cannot wait to get home now, I can just hear my couch calling my name.
Hearing a noise from behind me breaks me out of my little rant. Cursing to myself for not paying attention to the now desolate street I start to pick up my speed trying to think of logical things that noise could have been like oh maybe it was my imagination or screw it, it’s not helping. Taking a deep breath I look behind me only to come across an alley cat eating something out of someone’s garbage. Laughing quietly for the unnecessary panic attack I turn back around only to bump into a hard chest. Before my ass hits the sidewalk two strong arms wrap around my waist. Looking up I find that the man holding me had to be at least 6’3 which dwarfed my 5’5. Not being able to see his face because of the protection of the new moon night I was only able to make out his dark hair. Realizing I was still in his grasp I struggled to free myself from his iron like grip, but I soon came to the conclusion I wasn’t going anywhere until he let me go.
“Umm..sorry I didn’t see you there, but thank you for catching me” I said hoping he would get the hint and let go of me.
“You’re welcome” came his husky reply. Damn this boy had a sexy voice. Too bad he’s not only starting to creep me out by still not letting me go but he is also starting to piss me off.
“Uh if you could just kindly let go right now that would be great.”
“Sorry kitten but I’m afraid I can’t do that.”
“Excuse me?!” Panic slowly starts to creep in as I start to realize I’m in deep shit right now.
“I think you heard me.” As he said this, his hands gripped my waist tighter and he moved me closer to his hard chest.
“Listen you sick son of a bitch I swear to God if you don’t let me go right now I’ll start screaming.” My heart starts to beat so fast that I swear it is going to pop out of my chest as I try to think of something to do quickly.
“I don’t think so kitten.” And with that he pulled me against his chest and held a sweet smelling cloth over my mouth and nose. Struggling against him with everything I had seemed as useless against his brute strength and the last thing I heard before the world went black was him softly whispering in my ear that everything will be okay.
