Chapter 6 ~ Lucky Day

I awoke to my phone ringing alerting me someone was calling me. The sun had streamed through the blinds as it blinded me, it was really early, my alarm clock reading 5:30am. Who would call me this early? Quickly, I grabbed my phone from the dresser checking who it was but the screen read private number.

With hope in my heart I answered the phone wondering whether it was any of the jobs that I had applied for that may be contacting me back.

"Hello" I said cautiously.

"Hi Miss Rosa, this is Mr Santoro, I was wondering if you were interested in the server position at Lucky's bar."

"Wait whaaat, I got the job." I said shocked.

"It's yours if you want it." He replied.

"Yes, yes, yes. I mean yes please sir." I blurted out not able to contain myself.

"Of course, congratulations" he laughed.

I screamed overwhelmed that I had gotten the job in only a matter of time, this was my lucky day.

"Now that that is settled, you will be working with us starting from next week Monday. We will provide you with a uniform at the bar. You will also be sent a confirmation letter in which you must sign our policy, please send this back to our address when signed.
Any questions?" He said.

"How long will my shifts be?" I questioned.

"They will vary, all will be discussed once you arrive, anything else?"

"No sir, thank you so much." I said in astonishment.

"My pleasure, see you soon Miss Rosa."

"Bye Mr Santoro." I said as he hung up.

I fell back onto my bed clutching my phone in my hands against my heart. I was in awe, how had I gotten this job. I wasn't a religious person but I thanked God for helping me and was grateful. I let out a scream feeling overjoyed, suddenly a surprised Leia ran into to the room.

"Celeste whats wrong?, I heard you scream."

"I got the job!" I screamed as I jumped into her arms, her body jerking back from the force but immediately hugging me back.

"No way, gurrrl what! Cee oh my days, I am so proud of you." She said as she kissed my forehead.

"I start working on Monday, I can't wait." I said as I told her all about my call with Mr Santoro.

As I told her this Leia seemed uncomfortable as we fell into an awkward silence.

"Girl if only we both worked together that would be amazing." She thought aloud.

"If it's anyone who can do it, it's you Laï, Laï, you got this trust me. I mean why wouldn't they want someone funny and crazy like you." I comforted her.

She smiled back hesitantly and I only hoped she would get a great opportunity just as I had.

After we had eaten breakfast, Leia left to go home but we decided to meet up later at the mall and treat ourselves. Everyone needed to splurge their cash every now and then. It was something us girls did best.

I waited for Leia at our local cafe, ordering our favourite pumpkin spice latte and some vanilla cupcakes on the side. After a few minutes of waiting, I spotted her approaching the cafe with a cheery grin.

"Laï Laï what has gotten you so happy." I said as she sat in the booth opposite me.

"Nothing much."

"Spill the beans, your such a bad liar." I laughed.

"Okay you caught me." She gestured with her palms faced upwards. "I got the job!" She exclaimed.

"Leia..." I screamed jumping up and down in joy as I hugged her. "Babe you did it, we're gonna work together."

"I know." She cried with tears of joy.

"To working together again." I said as I raised my coffee and Leia did the same.

"To working together again." She beamed.

After coffee we browsed around the stores picking up a few bits and pieces before we headed to my apartment for a movie night.

We dressed up into our best onesies and sat with our mugs of hot chocolate while we watched The Notebook. I know a classic, but it was our favourite movie. We had watched this movie hundreds of times but we seemed to love it more each time we watched it again. Once the movie had finished, Leia fell asleep exhausted from our outing while I lay wide awake, sleep not welcoming me like usual.

The night was still as I faintly made out the light of my digital clock that read: 2:30am. It felt as though I was the only person awake, connecting with my inner self.

There was moments in life where you sat deep in thought and came to realisations. This was one of those moments. I felt at ease, content with my life. Everything seemed to be working at its own accord, and I was grateful. I had gotten out of a toxic relationship, I had gotten a new job now I just had to figure out a way to pay the rent. Paying rent was a pain in my ass but I would find a way just like I always did even if that meant going to extreme lengths, I would do so.

The week past by in a blur, as every day that seemed to pass led closer to my new job.

There was only 1 more day till I would start working there officially. I could not mess it up and make a fool out of myself and I most certainly did not want to get fired on my first day. Imagine that, how embarrassing! It would not happen, I would just have to be very careful.

And on that note I fell asleep not being able to contain my excitement for what tomorrow would bring. I could only hope nothing would go wrong.
