It was Sunday night at the Burrow, two and a half years after the war. The whole Weasley Clan (and Hermione and Harry) had gathered for dinner that Mrs. Weasley had cooked up. Teddy and his grandmother, Andromeda, were there too, and the one-year-old Victiore was sitting on her father's lap. All in all, it was a loud and raucuos night, just the way Hermione liked it. Sometimes she could drown in the noise, but other times it was like a vocal hug.

Suddenly, Ron stood and nervously cleared his throat and the whole family fell silent. Mrs. Weasley was clearly hoping that he was going to tell them of a nice young girl he had decided to settle down with. He was, but not in the way she hoping.

"Hermione," The young woman's head snapped up, as she stared at him. "I have known you for nearley ten years now, and I have loved you for six of them. Two years ago, we kissed and I knew I would one marry you. So, Hermione, I ask you - will you marry me?"

There was dead silence as Ron got down on one knee and opened a box with a ring in it, holding it out to her. A thud echoed around the room as Harry's head dropped onto the table.

"Ron," Hermione started, but stopped and glanced around the room. Fred and George had both narrowed their eyes, and were glaring at Ron. Mrs. Weasley was staring at Hermione with something akin to hope and sympathy whilst Bill and Charlie were looking nervous and amused. Fluer had a scornful expression on her face, and Ginny was very close to laughing. Harry kept his face flat on the table, and Mr. Weasley was looking anxious.

"Ron, we haven't kissed in two and half years. And after that, you went on to date other people without even telling me and now you're telling me you want to marry me? I'm sorry, but I can't marry you. We're not even dating!"

Ron stood, his whole face was bright red. "But I want to marry you!"

Hermione snapped. "But I don't want to marry you, let alone date you! So deal with it!"

He stood there gaping like a fish before regaining his voice. "What, you have a boyfriend or something?"

This was definatley the wrong thing. "How dare you Ronald? How dare you presume that I refuse you on behalf of a man? How dare you assume I have no voice or opinion and I can't choose how to live MY life? No Ronald, I don't want to marry you because I don't want to marry you, not because of a boy."

He blushed, and stumbled around for something to say, looking around at his family for help. He was looking uncannily like Cornelius Fudge. "Well - well. I - That's not! Completely blown out of proportion! I didn't -"

"You did. You assumed that when I refused you it was because of a man. Well newsflash Ronald - the world doesn't revolve around men. Boyfriend or not, no I'm not going to marry you and it's rude to suggest that the only reason I'm not is because another man has claimed me first. Like I should just pick whoever proposes first! But I can't - won't - be owned! So deal with it!"

She turned her back on the young, blustering man and sat down, contiuning to eat her food like nothing ever happened. But when she spoke next, it was with the knowledge that the whole family was listening.

"As a matter of fact, Ron, yes I do have a boyfriend, thank you for asking. Actually," And she pulled a ring on a chain around her neck out from under her shirt. "Fiance now."

The whole room exploded. Chairs were scraped back, people were shouting, and Ginny had leapt up and pulled Hermione into a hug, shouting "He proposed! You're engaged! Who proposed?" over and over. Eventually, Fred and George got annoyed and came to stand beside Hermione, letting off several firecrackers and quieting the house.

"Now let Hermione explain," George said.

Fred slipped his arm around her waist, and smirked. "I think I can explain." He then proceeded to pull Hermione to her and snog her thoroughly. The room exploded again, with Mrs. Weasley's bellows the loudest of them all, but not disguising the amount of coins that were changing hands. Even Mr. Weasley had bet on them!

Fred and Hermione stood there, a little bubble of calm in and amongst the chaos, drawing strength and love from each other. Even Ron, watching from afar, could tell how perfectly suited for each other and in love they were. Everyone could.

A/N Just one comment please. Also, I need some ideas for oneshots! Thank you. Sorry it's so awful.
