I ran my hand through my naturally long brown crazy blonde summer sun enhanced curly highlights as I sat on the counter of the familiar comic book store. The same fuzzy lighting lit up the store as it shone among the many lights on the night time board walk of Santa Carla. It was the same place in the daytime , but nightime was when the Murder Capitol of The World truely came alive. In the day time it was dead except for the odd old person or unfortunate new comer to the town and a notice board covered in sun dried missing posters blowing in the stuffy brezze at the corners that had managed to break free from their pins.I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the shiny metal of the till and leaned in closer to check that my eye makeup wasn’t already dripping down my face due to the humid shop filled with rows and rows of comic books , the endless take away vans outside and the hot summer night.Suprisingly , the black eyeliner wings framing my big blue eyes were still in tact and I smiled happily to myself that I didn’t have to go and scrub it all off my face when a bright glow of colours came into the corner of my eye.
I hadn’t seen this boy around Santa Carla before and with his fashion choices , he was certainly hard to miss.
Hi , I’m looking for a batman number 14. He said to me , whilst staring at the posters of iconic comic book characters behind the till.
Ok , 1 second.I said , before jumping down from the till and landing , staring down at my bright blue converse before skipping off to find Leo.
I found him staring at some black and white vampire film on the TV.
Leo , there is a customer asking for a comic book. I told him.
hmm , he replied nodding his head , his eyes still glued to the screen.
You are so obsessed ! I replied with a giggle as his eyes followed the flickering image of the vampire.
We are training ! yelled Harry, looking up from the crease he was pressing out of a comic book page that someone had folded the corner of , a disapproving scowl across his face.
Training for what !? I asked
We are dedicated to a higher purpose-Leo began , finally paying attention to the world around him.
I know , I know , vampire killers. I replied as the brightly dressed boy came over.
You said something about a customer wanting something ? Leo asked me.
Actually , I’m looking for a Batman Number 14 , the boy said before I could reply.
Thats a very serious book man. Leo said.
Only 5 in existence. Said Harry as he walked over to us , placing the now un creased comic on a near by shelf.
4 , actually , I’m always looking out for the other 3. said the boy as he glanced towards the comic that Harry had just put down.
You can’t put the Superman number 77s with the 200s , they haven’t even discovered red kryptonite yet. he continued
Where the hell are you from , Krypton ? Leo said , in that ‘oh so friendly’ tone.
Phoenix , Actually. Replied the boy , not annoyed by Leos sarcasm.
