Someone knocked on Luke's door. Before he even had a chance to think about answering, his sister stumbled inside with a concerned look.
"Luke, you- what the hell is that smell?", Elly asked, pinching her nose with her fingers. Luke just groaned and pulled the blanket over his head. Maybe if he hid there long enough, she'd go away.
"You know you're going to have to leave your room again. You can't just sit here in this mess and rot." She kicks the piles of clothes and trash and plastic plates to the side trying to create a path to Luke's bed.
"I do leave my room." Luke didn't come out of his hiding place.
"Okay. Using the restroom and scavaging food from the kitchen totally do not count." She pulled the blanket from his head, reavealing a boy with greasy dark brown hair. He looked terrible.
"Oh my god. Why do you hate me, Elly? Go away. I want to be alone. Alone. Do I need to spell that out for you A-L-"
"I'll leave, but only if you promise to eat dinner with us tonight. Come on Mom and Dad are freaked out. This isn't normal. I know you loved.."
"DON"T YOU DARE SAY HER NAME. DON'T SAY IT." Luke yelled. He took a few deep breathes, staring right through his sister. "Look, I'm sorry. I just need time, okay? I'll try okay, El? I'll try."
Elly nods. She closes her eyes for a second and then looks at her older brother.
"I'm sorry. I really am. Just take a shower alright? You smell. Like really really bad." She pretends that she faints and starts giggling.
Luke slightly smiles and throws a pillow at his sister. "Get out, brat!"
She sticks her tongue out to him, the way they use to when they were younger, and disspears out the door.
Luke sits up, rubbing his eyes. Damn, he thinks. It is messy in here. He has spent the past 4 days in this room. He's only left a couple of times to grab food and use the restroom. (After his attempt to pee into a bottle failed. Dumb movies.) He's been alternating between playing video games, sleeping and feeling sorry for himself.
I'm sorry, Luke. I love you, but I can't be with you. You knew this was going to happen. Come on. We can still be friends. Luke? Are you even listening?
"Ughhhh." He lays back down. "This sucks. This sucks so hard."
