"you look happy to meet me"

"y/n, i need you to come with me to this nekoma practice match," keishin said from behind a tower of cardboard boxes he had been building for half an hour.

"what?" you yelled from the counter, hoping you heard him wrong.

"i said i need you for the practice match against nekoma!" keishin shouted back, knocking over a couple boxes in the process.

you huffed, not wanting to leave for a volleyball game of all things.

now that you had helped the boys get their coach, communication had dwindled quite a bit. sugawara, like the kind boy he was, still met you after school every day. daichi greeted you when you both crossed paths. kiyoko was sweet as ever. but that was it. you didn't know the other boys half as well. plus, going with them to nekoma would be embarrassing, all things considered.

"do you hate my reputation that much, keishin? you really think i want to go with you to this match?"

keishin laughed. "you think i care if you want to or not? you're coming. nekomata misses you, plus you haven't talked to kuroo in a long time. it would be good for the two of you to reconnect."

the way keishin almost purred the word 'reconnect' did not have you convinced about the meaning of that word. you rolled your eyes in exasperation. you had literally no interest in the nerdy boy that was kuroo.

regardless of romance, you were busy with your new song. it was long, emotional, exactly the ticket you had been wanting. it was the piece that would get you to the universities of your dreams, you were sure of it.

oblivious to your thoughts, keishin continued, "plus, you've been working too hard, kid. i've seen the bags in your eyes. and you've been late to work the past couple of days, that never happens."

you hated to admit he was right. the piece you were writing had been giving you many a sleepless night. plus, you were in a stalemate at the moment. maybe a change of scenery would help you push through the block. clear up your emotions. give you some much needed direction.

"fine," you groaned, "i'll go. but only cause you and nekomata are so desperate to have me!"

~

the bus was almost unbearably loud. you were starting to wish you had brought your guitar to get the boy's energy released in another way than just yelling, but oh well.

turning the volume up on your headphones, you tapped the eraser of your pencil against the open notepad in front of you. you knew the piece wasn't done, but where would it go next?

kiyoko nudged your shoulder and gestured to the notepad with questioning eyes.

"what class is that for?"

"oh, it's not for a class exactly. i'm hoping to have an original piece of music to submit for my college applications."

kiyoko smiled encouragingly, "i see, that's very impressive! do you play an instrument or-"

i nod, "i mostly play guitar, but i sing too."

"that's amazing, y/n! i hope to hear your song some day."

i laugh at the irony of her statement. "funny you say that, me too. i've been writing this song the past few days, but i seem to be at sort of a stalemate. i'm not sure what to write next!"
