(Third-person POV)

Liliano Jeager was blind. In some ways, she was grateful for it. She didn't have to see the people stare at her as she trailed behind her mother through the town, she didn't have to see the people fight in the streets over the silliest things, she didn't have to see the cruel nature of this world where the only rule is 'kill or be killed'.

Her mother was especially grateful for her lack of sight, not because she didn't want her daughter to grow up seeing the wonders of life, but because she didn't want her daughter to chase the wonders of life.

Liliano's brother was curious, he wanted to learn all he could about the 'outside-world', he wanted to roam free and he wanted to leave the walls behind. That is why their mother was glad Liliano was born without the ability to see. The less she saw, the less she wanted to see. She wasn't tempted by the 'outside-world', and she was contempt within the safety of the walls.

But it was also this loss of the ability to see that brought the downfall of her quiet paradise.

It was mid-afternoon, her father and twin were out doing a check-up on one of their friends house, the Ackermans. Her mother had told her to sit still and wait where she was while her mother went to buy more flour, as they had run out. She waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, until finally she heard footsteps approaching her.

But they did not belong to her mother......, no they were more heavy, walking with an ever so slight limp on the right, no left leg. There was another set of footsteps following behind the first, the second set were lighter than the first although not by much, these footsteps were quickly paced and Liliano presumed they were practically jogging to keep up with the first, meaning either a large difference in speed, a large difference in height or a large difference in stamina.

The First set of footsteps got to Liliano first, stopping abruptly. Rustling about with something either in his hands or bag before speaking in a voice that sounded more like the kind of growling dogs make while marking their pray rather then actual human speech.

"Hey little girlie, are you lost?"

Another voice chimed in, probably the voice of the second man although where the first mans voice was rough and gravely his voice came of as more of a shriek or the kind of noise the geese make.

" Yeah, where's your mama?"

Liliano felt a shiver run up her spine as they spoke and it took her a few moment to realise, she was alone in this. At first she didn't realise it but now, she realised she could hear any other people around, it was just her, Dog man and goose man. She took a moment to contemplate her answers, her nailed digging in the her palms as she tried not to shake just out of pure fear of what was going to happen to her. That moment that Liliano took to configure some sort of excuse to get away from these men, was the moment the men shoved her head first into a bag, where the only thing she was accompanied by was her own breathing and the musky smell of old fabric. Needless to say it was suffocating, it was a hot day outside anyway but to be shoved in a heavy bag which wasn't the thinnest of materials, Liliano was at her boiling point. Liliano couldn't help it, she started to cry, she was hot, sweaty, she had no clue where she was or even which way was up and she had just been abducted to which she could find no conclusion on why these men would even want her in the first place.

She cried, and cried, until the tears stopped coming and she stayed in silence. Although it wasn't a gentle or even comfortable silence, it was a cold, empty silence, the kind that's so quiet it's loud, to the point where it suffocates you and-

'THUD'

Liliano found herself dropped on what she presumed was the ground with an aching bum and she could feel a headache starting to form. It was then that she heard voices, muffled due to her unfortunate situation.

"There....go.....natural-born....blind....you....owe"

"Take.....money.....go....bastard"

"HEY.....tricked....not....enough-egggrh"

W-what just h-happened....? Did h-he just d-d-die, d-did he jus-just get s-stabbed!? Liliano panicked as she started thrashing around. No no no no no, I don't want to die, I don't wanna go, I don't wanna, I don't wanna! She heard moving around outside and distinguished a set of footsteps headed her way, not necessarily heavy-footed but some sort of pride in their stance.

Suddenly, she was met with sunlight, or at least she presumed it was sunlight, she couldn't see it for obvious reasons however she could feel the soft heat against her face which was a contrast from her situation just a few minutes ago. She could tell these rays of sunlight weren't going to last long so she try to savour them as she breathed in air that didn't smell like their attic.

'Attic', it was a simple word, used in such a simple context, yesterday for some reason it brought up memories upon memories of her family, a family she doubted she would ever see again. That fact alone was enough to frighten her, this fear wasn't helped then a voice spoke up from next to her.

"Hey there, I'm not gonna hurt you."

Liliano's head flicked to the source of this voice and not long after felt a warm palm on her head, ruffling her hair.

"See, I ain't gonna hurt you" there was a pause then this man spoke up again "My names Oryn Leonhardt, but you can just call be Orie if you want."

"Orie?"

"Yup! Tis' what my family calls me."

"Family..." Liliano repeated slowly.

Oryn looked at this girl with sympathy in his eyes, she's only a child, barely 10 years old. The sad truth was no matter how bad he felt for this girl he had a mission, and for that he needs somebody who has never seen the world. So as much as it breaks his heart to taint such a pure innocent child, it's what needed to be done to 'save' humanity...

"Hey, do you want to meet the rest of our family?"

"O-our family"

"Yeah, our family..."

Liliano doesn't remember much of what happens in the next 2 years, she remembers briefly nodding to Orie's request and meeting the rest of his.....no.....not his.....our family.
