Once upon a time, there was a young noble girl who was both kind and smart. One day, her mother, who was one of the Empress's close friends, brought the young girl along to the Imperial palace during one of her visit. The Empress considered the little girl as one of her child because she had always wanted a daughter, so the Empress wanted her children to bond with the little girl.
In the first play date, the little girl found a new feeling that every young girls her age had, the feeling of falling in love. Her tiny heart burst in affection the moment her eyes fell on the young of Prince.
Because of her timid and insecure personality, she was afraid to go anywhere closer to the Prince. She would feel shy to be next to him. She would feel inferior because he was the crowned Prince of the Empire, the future Emperor. She would always admire him from afar.
Once the crowned Prince was sent to another region to study. She was sad that she couldn't see him for many years. Although they were apart, her feeling for the crowned Prince was unchanged.
The little girl was soon grown into a beautiful young lady. She was sent numerous marriage proposals, but was turned down every of them because she was waiting for one person.
The day that the crowned Prince returned to the Empire, the Emperor granted an engagement for the crowned Prince and the young lady.
She was burst in joy; however, she had one problem in her hand. She had no idea how to express her emotions whenever she was near her fiancé. Their dates would ended up being very awkward.
Since she could not express her feelings to him, she decided to write letters about how she felt instead. The letters was indicated to the crowned Prince, but they were never sent. She kept her feelings safe inside a golden box.
As time passed, she noticed that her fiancé started to change little by little. Until one day, he became an entirely different person. She did not know what to do. She was frightened when she realized he was not the person whom she loved since she was young.
She decided to avoid him, run away from him, and hide from him. She felt lost and heartsick. She weeped every night thinking about him.
Is it because of me that he had changed? Does he hate me now because I've always avoided him? Have he ever loved me?
She repeatedly asking herself those questions.
This was not the happy ending she had always wanted.
But there was another side to the story.
The day they first met it was not just the little girl who fell in love. The young Prince was flabbergasted by the young girl. He would look at her, only her.
The moment his father told him leave the Empire for 4 years, he was furious because he did not want to leave his love behind. Regardless how he wanted to stay, he could not leave his duty as the future Emperor behind.
Those 4 years was hell to him as he did not get to see her face. He had wished everyday to pass quickly so that he could see her again.
After 4 years, he quickly went back to the palace, hoping that the girl he loved would not married to another man. When he heard that she was in the palace, he rushed to see her immediately.
He was in awe when he saw her again. She had become a gorgeous young woman. He just could not get his eyes off her.
When his father announced their engagement, he was in bliss. He was waiting for her to become his. But his pessimistic thoughts kept interrupting him.
She always distance herself from me. Does she not like me? Does she not like this engagement? What should I do to keep her by my side?
Day by day, he became cold and cruel to his subjects, but he tried to be gentle on her. However, he was blinded by jealousy that he did something awful toward her. As a result, she was driven away from him.
He regretted it, but decided to stay away from her, preventing himself from lashing his anger on her again.
It's better for her to stay away from me. I don't want to hurt her.
She was in hiding, and he knew where she was. Every night, he would visit her while she was sleeping without her knowledge. He wanted to touch her, hold her, and see her smiles again. He held back.
One night in his usual visit, she was awakened by him even though he hid his presence. He thought that she would not notice him, but she called his name as if she knew he was there.
He was frightened and left her room.
That night was his last visit. He knew that if he went to see her again, he would not be able to let her go.
