{Lots of fluffy chapters before the next arc}
Levy was not the clingy type, she understood personal space and liked hers. Yet, a week after the S-class exams, she was pretty sure a certain someone had been avoiding her. "Levy-chan, if you grip that poor book any harder it's gonna rip in half." Levy blinked and released the book in her hands. She had been gripping it so tight her hands were cramping and her finger tips were numb. She looked up to Lucy who had sat across from her. "You ok?" The blonde asked, concern written on her face. Levy sighed, resting her chin on her hand. "Am I clingy Lu?" Levy asked a bit sadly. Lucy blinked before smiling softly, "Of course not Levy-chan! Why?" Levy sighed as she laid her chin on the table. "Gajeel has been avoiding me all week." Levy pouted.
Lucy tried to bite back her smile, but Levy wasn't paying attention. "Why do you think that Levy? Maybe he's just busy!" She tried to reassure her friend. Levy sighed sadly, "Maybe... I'm just gonna head home for the day. Maybe read that new book I got. " She was now talking to herself, as Lucy had stopped listening, staring at something behind her. Levy turned on the bench to stand and nearly bumped right into the object of her inner turmoil. She blinked up at Gajeel, a deep blush spreading across her face. Before Levy, the iron dragon slayer was scrubbed and polished, she was sure his piercings were polished. Gone were his cargo pants and metal studded shirt, he now wore nice black jeans and a white v-neck shirt. A black jacket hung nicely on his frame, and he had tamed his black mane into a pony tail.
"Uh... H-hi Gajeel." Levy stuttered, as she stared at him. Gajeel smirked at her, "Hey Shrimp. Come with me." He said, holding his hand out to her. Levy only hesitated for a moment before grabbing his hand and standing, following him out of the guild. It took Levy a moment to find her voice, she had been too busy staring at Gajeel. "So... Where are we going?" Gajeel grinned down at her, "Surprise." Levy pouted and he laughed, pulling her into his side and wrapping his arm around her shoulders. Levy puffed out her cheeks but wrapped her arm around his waist and allowed herself to be lead along.
It didn't take long for them to reach a new resturant on the far side of town. It had an open eating area as well as a meadow that over looked the lake and, if viewed at the right time, had a truly amazing view of the sunset. Levy looked up at Gajeel, eyes wide. She had mentioned before the exam that she wanted to eat here, but it was too expensive. Gajeel spoke to the host and asked for an outdoor table, it was a beautiful clear day. They sat and looked over the menus, Levy nearly choked at the prices. "Gajeel, if you wanted to grab lunch we could have just ate at the guild." Levy muttered, though her stomach growled at the incredible looking food. Gajeel smirked and met her eyes, "It wouldn't be a date then would it?" It took a moment for his words to sink in.
Levy blushed, so brightly it would put Erzas hair to shame. "W-w-what?!?" Levy squeeked, dropping her menu. Gajeel turned slightly pink and his cockiness gave way to slight nervousness. "Well, we havnt been on an actual date yet.... And I thought it would be nice ya know? Iv been going on jobs all week so that way I could put this all together." He had started to ramble and was nervously scratching his cheek. Levy was touched. When she thought he had been ignoring her, he had been planning their first date. Levy smiled shyly, "I wish you would have told me. I could have worn something nice." She said quietly, interrupting him. "What's wrong with what your wearing?" He asked with a small frown.
"Well I could have cleaned up some and worn a pretty dress. Made myself look pretty. Even you cleaned up!" Gajeel snorted. "In Lily's words, 'My ragamuffin attire is not date worth'. Said if I'm gonna take you out, I should look the part. But you," He smiled softly and she felt her face heat up again. "I think you look perfect just the way you are."Levy felt tears prick her eyes and the sweet words. "Thank you Gajeel." She said softly. Gajeel grinned and gently took her hand on the table. "Anything for you... Shrimp." Levy puffed out her cheeks and kicked him under the table, causing him to curse quietly. "You ruined the moment!" They both glared at each other, neither willing to give in.
Suddenly they both burst into laughter, "Well," Levy said as she pulled herself together and looked at her menu. "If your paying, I'm getting the most expensive thing here." She glanced over her menu to meet Gajeels smirk. "Go ahead. Get dessert too." Levy grinned. They finally ordered and ate their lunch in a comfortable peace, Levy asking about Gajeels jobs and Gajeel asking about what she did while he was gone. When they had finished, dessert and all, they left. Levy had her arm hooked around Gajeels, head leaning against his bicep as they took a calm stroll through the park.
"So," she started. "While Lunch definitely cost a pretty penny, I don't think a weeks worth of jobs was worth it. Are we going somewhere else?" She asked as she looked up at him. She blinked as she saw his face tint red and he wouldn't look at her. "You ok Gajeel?" She asked softly and he nodded slightly. Gajeel pulled them to a bench that was shaded by a small tree. The silence soon turned awkward as Gajeel fidgeted slightly , and Levy was about to ask if he was alright when he pulled something out of his jacket. He handed the square velvet case to her, face even redder as he looked away. "This was the other reason I needed money."
Levy blushed lightly as she took the box, looking up at him before opening it. Inside rested a gold chain with a tiny sculpture hanging from the center. " It's Paarthurnax." She said with a smile. The gold dragon curled around himself, roaring up at her. "I remembered you talking about him in one of your books. When I saw it on a job I knew I had to get it for you." Levy smiled, gently closing the box and setting it beside her. She sat up straighter so she could plant a soft kiss on Gajeels lips. Gajeel smiled softly against her lips before she pulled away with a smile. "Thanks Gajeel. It's beautiful." Gajeel grinned before holding his hand out.
"Let me put it on ya," Levy beamed and handed him the box before turning around. She lifted her short hair so he could clasp the necklace around her neck. Once he was finished it sat just below the hollow of her neck and had a comfortable weight. Levy turned around and smiled up at her boyfriend before giving him another kiss. "I love you Gajeel." He smiled softly, pulling her into his side and holding her. "Love ya too Levy."
