The Guardian's Tale (AOT fanfiction)

I put my hood on, every single one of my muscles tightened up and all of my senses alert. However, the closer the figures got, the more familiar the footstep patterns got and I slightly lowered my swords. When the figures removed their hoods, it turned out to be Section Commander Hange and Moblit.

Apparently, the coup d'état was a success and that all false charges against the Scouts had been lifted. She handed us a newspaper that revealed the fake king, the abuse of power and declared the Scouts to no longer be criminals. We all jumped up in happiness and relief, hugging each other while laughing. Finally...we were free. Jean hugged me tightly and whispered something in my ear which made me both smile and brought tears up in my eyes.

"Marco would be so proud of us." Was what he whispered. "He'd be pissed that I let you get shot tho. And twice at that. Oh lord and he'd kill you if he saw that ring of yours." He joked, a gentle smile forming on his lips.

I let out a small laugh and playfully hit his chest, wiping the tears that threatened to fall. Hange then announced that she knew where Eren and Historia might be, holding up a book that I'd seen in Commander Erwin's study before. 

"Let's get there...and put an end to this fight." She announced before we all cheered.

"Hange. You said you might know where they are ?" Mikasa asked as her, Levi, Hange and I sat in the wagon led by Armin.

"Oh yeah. I guess I should explain how." Hange replied. "Erwin gave me this Scout report from an investigation on Lord Reiss's land. It details a certain incident that occurred 5 years ago on the Reiss estate. It was the day Wall Maria was breached. I'll summarize the most important parts from the beginning."

Apparently some bandits raided and set fire to the only chapel in the area, while the Reiss family was inside. The entire family, except for Rod Reiss, had been killed. According to all of the evidence we had gathered, this was only a few days before Historia's mother was killed by the Interior Police which meant that Rod had sought his daughter out immediately after losing his family. 

"Something tells me that this wasn't out of newfound paternal affection." Hange added.

"Well she IS of royal blood." Levi said before briefly looking at me. "Or do you think that bloodline has some other secrets ?"

"It's possible but I'm not sure yet." The Section Commander replied. "What really stood out to me at least was the fact that large parts of the chapel were destroyed. The chapel was built from stone so it would take alot of time and effort to destroy it. If it was bandits, they'd have taken what they could and made a quick escape. Also, Lord Reiss was the only witness. No one confirmed his story. Then Lord Reiss rebuilt the chapel using his own personal fortune almost immediately. What was his rush ? If you think about it, the story would only make sense if it was a Titan attack."

I clenched my fists and stood up, climbing onto Jean's extra horse. Maybe he was trying to hide the fact that he's been living a lie his whole life. But the real question remained...would anyone believe me if I was to claim the throne ? I couldn't let my clan down...I mean they sacrificed themselves so that one day we could sit on the throne again and make thing right. But I wasn't a ruler...I was a Soldier. I shook my head and focused on the task at hand, saving Eren from getting eaten. Before the night was over, Reiss's land would be crawling with Soldiers but it might be too late so we had to get there as fast as possible. 

Blood from the bullet wounds started soaking through my clothes and I swore under my breath. My leg was throbbing and my side felt like it was trying to rip off from my body. Suddenly, a bright light flashed across my eyes and a string of memories started floating through my mind. I blocked them off and shook my head. They must have made Eren remember already...this wasn't good.

"Say Yuki." Jean called out, snapping me out of my thoughts. "You're...the Guardian Titan right ? What is it exactly ?"

"A long time ago...9 Titans were created. Why ? I dunno. Beats me." I shrugged, keeping my eyes on the road ahead. "Each of those 9 Titans had abilities, take for example Reiner and his armors or Eren and his ability to control Titans. But there were actually 10 Titans...the Guardian was created to watch over them all. It contains the powers of every one of the 9 Titans just in case something were to happen." I looked at him and gulped. "It had been kept a secret from the whole world because the Founder knew it would cause chaos and jealousy. It had been passed down the Uchiha clan for generations and unlike the others...you don't need to eat someone to obtain it. It also...contains the memories of every inheritor of all the 9 Titans." I trained my eyes back to the front. "But it had one fatal flaw...if the inheritor was sick, the ability to turn into a Titan would vanish and...I was born with a heart illness. That's all I know."

"You must understand this is Kenny the Ripper. If HE'S there he's our biggest obstacle." Levi stated. 

"The Captain's right...fighting uncle...I mean Kenny is like fighting him." I agreed. "But with those weapons he'll be stronger."

Armin then pointed out that the odds wouldn't entirely be in Kenny's favor. His squad was well trained but we had much more experience. 

"I have to ask. How is it that you two lived with Kenny the Ripper but know next to nothing about him ? Did you guys never talk ?" Hange asked Levi and I.

"Not really." I plainly answered. "Uncle Kenny only helped my brother and I survive in the Underground when the Scouts had to hide us from the Military Police. So we saw him every 2 weeks or so but he never really said much."

We walked into the chapel and after a bit of searching, I pulled a rug to reveal a trapdoor and I signaled the others. I then looked over at the 'presents' we'd prepared for them which were just barrels of gunpowder with bags of oil and gas tanks. Levi nodded at me and I gathered heat in both of my palms, turning my eyes scarlet. More blood was starting to soak my clothes but I wasn't about to bail on this mission.

"Is everyone here ready ?" Levi asked. "Cuz you're all about to dirty your hands." He looked over to our cold an stern faces. "I'll take that as a yes."
