Ch 10
Jungkook pushed open the door and stepped into the familiar old study.
The shelfs lined with books on each wall, the high stained glass windows and the one overlooking the garden.
The huge oak desk, and behind it, his father.Jungkook remembers when he was little and they would come here during holidays. He would play in the garden with his mom for hours, his dad smiling at him from inside the study window. Then at night he would come to his dad and he pick a book from the countless ones on the shelfs, then he would sit in his dad's lap as he worked and little kookie read his books
Now the man sat in his chair just the same, with a file in his hand and glasses slowly slipping from his nose.
But Jungkook didn't run to him excitedly with a book in his tiny hands, instead he stood by the door, now afraid to even step closer. His father looked at him and gave him a soft smile as his face wrinkled. It caught Jungkook off guard, what?
"Jungkook," he began."Dad." There were a million thoughts on running through his head. So many things he wanted to say. But his nerves wouldn't let him say a single word. His insides felt tangled as the pit in his stomach grew by the second.
He could feel his heart rate increasing as his chest tightened. A small nerve was pumping a lot faster in his head. Causing an ache near his temple.
Jungkook tried his best to stand straight and not fidgit, as much as he wanted to, so he bit his lip, clasped his wrist and dug his feet into the ground.
Jimin's words from last night rang his ears. He shouldn't care. But he does. And that's a problem. His father must have noticed his discomfort, so he poured a glass of water from the jug on his desk and beckoned him to sit down. Jungkook creeped forward, his whole body shaking. He sat down and took a gulp of water. The liquid burned like ice in his chest.
"Dad I'm sorry-"
"What for? You have nothing to apologise for."
"I- m-my outburst, and I'm-im-" Jungkook words got choked in his throat.
"Jungkook. You are who you are. And there's nothing wrong with that.
While yes, it could have gone better than it did, I'm glad you told us.""And infact, I should be the one to apologise. I should have handled the situation better, and my first priority should have been you."
Jungkook looked up at his father his doe eyes wide.
As long as Jungkook could remember, he hadn't been close to his father. He hadn't been been close to either of his parents, to be honest. But as he looked up at the old man now, body worn out from years of work, yet his face still soft. . . warm and familiar. Suddenly flashes of old, distant memories grazed behind his eyelids, memories of laughter, memories of comfort, memories of warmth.
So as his lower lip quivered and tears pricked his eyeballs, threatning to fall, he stepped forward and hid his head on the man's chest, who instantly clasped a hand around the back of his head, holding him there, and another hand rubbing Jungkook's back.
That's right. Jungkook might mot have been close to his dad. But it was no question his dad loved him, no matter what.
There was a small warmth in his heart, but it was quickly follwed by a gust of cold wind and a grim reminder.
But clearly not her... Jungkook pulled back, his eyes red
"What about mom?"
Mr.Jeon realeased a soft breath through his nose. "Your mom comes from a very conservative family. She was born and raised in the backword part of Korea. And a lot of those ideologies are still engrained in her mindset.
"I'm not saying that excuses her actions but I just.....hope you understand, that she does not hate you, or even dislike you, she's just-
"Just dissapointed in me." Jungkook cut him off, looking down.
"Kook-ah look at me," he grabbed the back of his son's head and tilted it to make him look up. "You are our son, and we raised you to be the kind, talented man you are today, and who you choose to love, can never change that. Your mom just needs some time to remember that."
And Jungkook bawled his father's arms like a baby.

Jungkook looked at his reflection in his phone for one last time before getting out into the cool early October air, and running into the company building.
His eyes were red and puffy and he had a runny nose. I'm gonna get a scolding from stylist noona today. He thought as he jogged passes the reception to the training room.
He pushed open the door to the training room, bowing to the choreographer who gave him a light glare for being late "mi-an-he-yo."
He put his bag down near the door, his band members stretching across the room.
Once Namjoon and Jin saw him, the immediately got up and walked over to him while he took off his jacket.
"Hey Jk, how'd he go? Are you okay?" Jin asked.
Jungkook looked down with a small smile, biting his lower lip.
"Guess you're my eomma now."
Jin and Namjoon' faces fell as the oldest member pulled the maknae into a tight hug. "You bet your ass I am."
The rest of the training was spent Jungkook telling them the events of the previous night. The two would stop their practicing to pull him into a hug. "Oh you poor baby." Jin said at one point. Jungkook chuckled. He then told them about his fatehr and they both cheered happily "go appa"
"That Jimin dude sounds nice." Namjoon wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
Jungkook's ears turned pink. He had similar thoughts but he had to quickly push them aside.
"Clearly, but he called me a kid hmph."Namjoon laughed, slapping a hand on his shoulder. "Because you are a kid dumbass."
"I am 23 but okay"
"You literally have a molang and piu piu plushie collection but okay" said Jin
"Adults can like plushies okay?!" Defended Jungkook.
"Sure, sure " chuckled Joon
"Anyways, Speaking of him, do you know what happened with his family?" Jin asked.
"I'm not sure but dad said he took care of it and not to worry about it."
Then their choreographer called them and it was time for dance practice.
