When Chrollo fetched Illumi's soul from the afterlife, he triggered a butterfly effect of demonic sprites escaping to Earth along with Gon's soul. When Gon discovers he has a knack for returning demons to Hell, he and Death are put at odds. Someone has to pay for the crime of unleashing chaos on the city. Luckily, Illumi has a law degree. Unluckily, they didn't teach him jack shit about Hellish court law.
