After Adrien's father does not let him see his friends on his sixteenth birthday, he goes to Marinette in the night as Chat Noir. He appreciates her friendship and starts to understand that she might just mean more to him than just being his friend.

"Ladybug, I... I'm sorry." He then pulls the ring all the way off his finger, releasing Plagg and transforming back into the last boy in Paris I expected to be Chat Noir. "Adrien!?" It has been a month since Ladybug and Chat Noir defeated Hawkmoth. They have not revealed their identities to each other either. That's when Chat Noir informs her that he will be moving to London to live with different family. He renounces his miraculous.
