Alone and ill-equipped to survive in such harsh terrain, Ashima is found near death by a 7 foot tall alien with lavender skin. Will he be the savior she needs, or is she destined for destruction on this planet who's residents' hearts seem to be made of ice as solid as the planet she found them on? "The Caregiver and the Mob Boss" ❦ Avelina makes her money by taking care of those who can't take care of themselves. When she is handed a case about a man who had needed a personal caregiver, she accepts. One thing Avelina never anticipated was the dangerous lifestyle he lived. Not only that, but she didn't expect for him to be so incredibly good-looking. Adrik Zolotov, the Russian mobster that everyone called "Mad Hatter". His insanity and crave for blood left him the most feared man of all. All he wanted was power and those around him to fear him. For a man recently diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, everyone believed him to be emotionally incapable of ever loving anyone. . . Imagine their surprise when he meets Avelina. ❦ "Mr. Zolotov, I have to make sure you bathe before I leave. It's apart of my jobs protocol," she said softly. The truth was that he made her feel nervous. There was so much coldness and evil in his eyes, it left a chill to run down her spine. "Fine," he stated before walking over to his bathtub. Her eyes followed his movements as he pulled off his shirt causing her to lick her lips and quickly look away. She could hear the sound of more clothes falling onto the ground until the sound of water running littered her eardrums. "You assist when asked, isn't that right?" He asked. Slowly, she opened her eyes to see that he had already gotten into the shower. "Yes," Avelina answered. "Bathe me." ❦ Dangerously far from cliché

I look down at the frail frame of the girl. I unlatched her cage and nudged her with my foot. It seems cruel, but the other trainers would have done much worse to see her ignoring their commands to rise. "Wake up, you're being moved," I say to her, crouching down and shaking her. She lies unmoving and a heaviness settles in my chest. I move her hair from her face and press my fingers to her neck, trying to find a pulse. I purse my lips, feeling the faint beating of her weak heart. I look at the girl, watching her struggle to push air in and out of her lungs. I can tell she is sick. Do I put her in the truck with the others, or take her to the doctor? The truth is, nothing good awaits her in the truck. The only question is if it is crueler to go put her with the others, unconscious and barely holding on, or to take her to the doctor. I feel sick just thinking about it. She either dies here, or will wish she would have. I can't turn a blind eye to her though, I can't stand and watch as the life leaves her. Perhaps she will be thankful for me saving her life. ---- Hazel. She's a pretty little thing, far too precious and fragile for the life she was born into. Having lived most of her life in a training facility, she knows little of the beauty of the world or the people in it. A punishment gone bad, forever mares her, leaving her crippled, undesirable. Axel. He's an average man with an abnormal size. Being a Trainer, he is expected to be cold and cruel, someone he is not. It pays him money though, so perhaps living up to that expectation isn't that bad? When confronted with a choice he finally has to choose who he wants to be. Will he live up to others expectations? Or will he choose what may not be easiest, but what is right?

"Camille." I stiffen and look to the direction of the voice. "Detective Wells," I say. "Is there something I can help you with?" He sits down on the bench. "You're going to jail," he tells me. I shrug. "And?" I ask. "Do you know what's odd?" Detective Wells asks. "Camille Kincaid didn't exist until two years ago." "So?" I ask. "It's just odd, don't you agree?" he says. "What do you want?" I ask. "You," he says. "In jail." "So, you must think I killed Braxton," I say. He shrugs. "Braxton Thorne might have been stalking you, obsessed with you, even. But the beauty is that no one will ever know," he says. "All they'll know is that you killed him." "There's nothing to say that I'll go to jail," I tell Detective Wells. "There will be."

Rupert Hilden is haunted by the image of a bald man he saw through his bedroom window as a child. 24 years later he sees the same man in a distant apartment window and each time he sees the man he is closer. But Rupert is unable to convince anyone that what he is seeing is real. As Rupert investigates he uncovers several disturbing family secrets that seem to be connected. And then the murders begin... This psychological thriller horror tale will be presented in serial form over the course of 34 weeks. A readers review (electricblue85): Sean Fisher's "13 Windows" was one of the first books I completed in 2021. In short, IT BLEW MY FREAKING MIND. "13 Windows" tells the chilling, mind-boggling story of Rupert Hilden: a miserable individual haunted by the image of the bald man he saw through his bedroom window as a child. But the story is not that simple. Not. Even. Close. Things get complicated when the murders begin. I've never really been into horror / thriller literature, but this book single-handedly made me a fan! The writing style, the level of detail, the suspense, the amount of research that went into crafting the plot and stage for this dynamic masterpiece of a book is STUNNING. And Sean Fisher composed MUSIC for the book. MUSIC! I highly recommend this story to inquisitive readers who want to be simultaneously impressed and disquieted--especially those that crave a great plot twist (because wow).
