"Crystallized," Mikasa corrected. "It's like your heart is crystallized." Annie stared at the raven haired girl. Her face, her cheekbones, and the way her eyes were sparkling was capturing her attention. She could feel her warmth from here and she wanted nothing more than to wrap herself in it. To close her eyes and drift off into the safety that is her. "My heart isn't crystallized," Annie said, "Not to everyone at least."

A year after Annie's capture, she awakens, but this sets in motion a series of events no one knew would happen. The Titan Shifters aren't done with Humanity, and with Annie free from her Crystal, they will stop at nothing to get her back and continue with their plan. Many years have passed and it seems that the promise that Hanji kept was entirely forgotten, she gave her niece to the child's father, who willingly took the child. Little did she know that her promise was already broken when she gave the child to him.
