Dallas Franklin is out of it. She is slightly OCD, socially awkward, has only one best friend, and her life pretty much resolves around Nerdfighteria. So when Austin von Thalberg starts trying to talk with her, her first reaction is to run the other way. But the boy is persistent, and he's also a nerdfighter-the only two things Dallas can hardly fight against. And as their friendship develops, Dallas starts to realize that maybe living only on her computer in her cybernetic world might not be as fun as the life she can have with Austin and his friends.

"I must have hit my head a lot harder than I had anticipated, or maybe breathe too much smoke because this is definitely nut-case crazy. Or a very creepy dream that feels way too real for my own good. I can pat my subconscious on the back for that one, but at the same time, it might be a little over the top." When Melody set fire to a museum she didn't expect to hit her head on the pavement and wake up in a nightmare. But she does. And this nightmare is not a nightmare apparently--it's a curse. A curse that traps her into paintings. And there's no escaping from the wrath of a possessed painting out to teach an art-hater a lesson. Parents don't exactly realise the damage and impact that the occasional slight remarks they make can have. On the rare occasions that they realise they shouldn't have said something, they make the huge mistake of just assuming that the young ones won't remember. That the words they uttered are meaningless and won't leave an impression on their children. Sometimes, all it takes to fix it is an apology.
