Der Krieg in Hogwarts ist zu Ende und alle Todesser sitzen in Askaban, wurden ermordet oder sind spurlos verschwunden. Harry, Ginny, Ron, Hermine und George leben nun im Grimmauldplatz 12, doch für Hermine beginnt das letzte Schuljahr. Die anderen haben sich dafür entschieden die Schule nicht fort zu setzten. Hermine leidet jedoch unter schrecklichen Alpträumen und ist nicht mehr die selbe wie früher.
