Takes place right after Childish Things. Winn Schott Jr.'s father, the notorious Toyman, may be back behind bars, but Winn is constantly haunted by him nonetheless. Captain Raoul de Changy has just been assigned to the USS Palais Granier, along with his first officer, a Vulcan with a talent for singing, Christine T'sha Daae, the mysterious chief Doctor, Doctor Giry, the young ensign (and the doctor's daughter) Meg Giry and the short tempered lieutenant, Charlotta Gudecelli, for short 6 month mission to uncover new plots of space. Everything goes fine until the crew comes across an unknown species of alien who simply calls himself, the Phantom. When the ship is attacked, the Phantom is believed to have escaped entirely, that is until his ship is tracked down and its discovered that the strange creature is still roaming the Palais's walls and has taken a liking to Christine.
