What is a chick lit? It is not one of those minty chewable gum that you pop in your mouth to freshen up your breath para hindi ma-turn off ang kausap mo. Hahaha. I was just kidding. Anyway, on a serious note, Chicklit o yung tinatawag na chick literature ay isang uri ng fiction genre. Ito po ay pinangungunahan ng "bidang babae" o yung tinawag na "heroine". Ito rin po ay kwentong gawa mula sa kathang-isip ng mga writers na tumutukoy sa mga isyu ng makabagong babae - mula sa romantikong relasyon, sa mga pagkakaibigan hanggang sa mga kaganapan sa lugar ng trabaho - from trials to victory, sa nakakatawa at magaan na paraan. Ang salitang chicklit ay hinango sa dalawang magkahiwalay na salita, chick at lit. Ang chick ay isang American slang na tumutukoy sa isang dalaga o babae, young lady kung ito ay tawagin nila. At ang katagang Lit naman ay pinaiksing literature o panitikan. Kadalasan, kung hindi palagi, ang mga bida ng chick lit ay mga single. Opo, tama po kayo ng basa. Ang ating bidang babae ay walang asawa, mga mapuputi, magaganda, attracted lamang sa opposite sex, kadalasang mga babaeng British at Amerikana na nasa late twenties at early thirties, na naninirahan malalaki at busy-ng siyudad ang main character." Pero syempre dahil Pilipino tayo at nasa Pilipinas tayo, alam kong makakagawa din tayo ng kwento na hango sa mga morena, magaganda, independente, at mapagpursigeng Filipina Heroine.
