They were just one of WICKED's many awful experiments in hopes of finding a cure. When they were younger and under constant surveillance by WICKED, the experiment was mostly harmless. Small cuts and bruises which could be felt by the other person weren't an issue. It was when WICKED chose to begin putting people in the maze, putting their lives at stake, causing them to endure more than just physical pain was when things became dangerous. (This is the final book to my Newt x reader series. The first book is 'In These Walls' and the second is 'In the Scorch') According to WICKED, the trials are now over for the Gladers, but Thomas is locked away in a room and (y/n) hasn't been able to see Newt since they got back from the Scorch. WICKED also promises to give back the memories to the Gladers and reactivate the special qualities each pair of partners had been given.
