You're given 0.7 seconds to decide what to do when the most popular boy waltzes up to you and starts throwing pick up lines at you. What would you choose? a) Slap him b) Throw a sarcastic remark at him c) Walk away If you were like those daring sarcastic female leads in most novels then you'd likely choose either a) or b), but shy senior high schooler Iris Martin chose c) walk away. Then her life somewhat resembled baking a cake. Add in a pinch of arrogance from the bad boy, a teaspoon of cheer from his girlfriend and an overfilled cup of persistence from a new student who was her cousin's fiancé's brother's best friend and the cake will be ready to explode in the oven. ~~~ Cover by @-wanderes {edited} {completed}

Now available in paperback! "I LOVE IT!" - CarniaHolmes "I'm going to break your nose, because I don't like your face," Carter said. She pointed to Zac. "I'm going to dislocate your other shoulder, just to make them even." She cocked her head and gave the main guy a sickly sweet smile. "I'm going to break your wrist, taking away your baseball career. And finally you, Finch," she said, looking to the last guy. "I'm going to bust your ankle because I don't like the way you walk." She slid her hands into her pockets. "Now, how does that sound to all of you? And please feel free to look amused, skeptical or patronizing at this point. I'll have all the more fun wiping the expressions off your faces." Carter Owens, daughter of a Secret Service agent, is trained to disassemble any weapon, any situation, and anyone. Her biting sarcasm and razor-sharp mind make her impossible to beat in a word fight and when talking doesn't work, she uses her fists. She attends Hamilton Prep, Washington D.C.'s most prestigious high school, where everyone is related to someone in power, except her. When Hamilton Prep receives a flood of new students, Carter's role as social outcast changes when she makes two unexpected friends. Friends who are hiding a secret. As Carter uncovers the truth, she confronts challenges she is unequipped to handle and finds herself in a dangerous situation. For a girl trained to see everything, Carter never saw this coming. "This book is therapy!" - Abbieking86 "I want to shoot my left knee cap," Elliot said. "A natural response. Is it because you favor your right?" Tristan asked. "No, not particularly," she replied. "So the issue is...?" "I found the most amazing writer." "Damn! I hate when that happens," Tristan said. Is it better to write well, or to be well known? Elliot McKenzie is a prolific YA writer. Having published four books by the time she left high school, she is ready to branch out. For her fifth novel, she decided to use dual point of views. Wanting the male point of view to ring true, she needs a co-author. In her search for a co-author, she encounters Beck Daniels, a cocky introvert with the habit of speaking his mind. After their first meeting, Beck is the last person Elliot wants to work with. That is, until she reads his writing. As they begin to write together, Beck challenges Elliot's formulaic and clichéd writing, while Elliot calls out Beck's self-sabotage and procrastination. Mix in a crazy family, her sister's wedding and a publishing deadline; and Elliot might discover she has more of a voice than she thought. "This story!! Seriously, I'm already hooked! Team Foster-Keefe for the win! Some romantic oneshots for your single souls. Edit: I made this story quite a while ago! I look back on it and don't like a lot of my writing-it literally makes me cringe-and the reason I keep this story up is because of the immense support I have received. (Plus, so many people seem to really like it.) I'm really just asking for you to not judge all of my writing ability based off of this story, I wrote it a long time ago, and I would say that my writing is much improved now. With that being said, I hope you enjoy anyway!! All characters and world building belongs to Shannon Messenger, the author of Keeper of the Lost Cities.
