I can't be the only one who wonders what would have happened if kuma sent luffy somewhere else right?, here's an AU for what i think might have happened. When Blackbeard was caught in the action of stabbing Thatch, a fight ensues, a trap planned ahead off time was laid out, causing Marco, the first division commander, to be thrown to the sea in his Phoenix Form, hearing the laughter of the traitor and the cries of his siblings as he submerged. Locked in a cage and kept as a pet bird for the Tenryuubito for months, Marco was saved and hidden from the world by a group of Marines. But it seems, this group needs to be saved as well, especially their beloved Captain, the Rear Admiral, Monkey D. Luffy.
