Picking up the small letter in the middle of the checkerboard, I keep the creeping fear at bay and read the four words followed by his signature, surprisingly neatly written. "Prepare to be checkmated - Nick."

In a world with empathy based special abilities, an academy for the training and manifestation of these powers exists. Two students within the academy stand out.
