Nova was never really fond of superheroes. From their capes to the idea that a woman could serve as little more than a device to further the endless conflict of good and evil, you have to admit she's got a solid argument. It's a bit ironic that she doesn't like them because they seem to love her. Naša spoločnosť je stabilná. V symbióze žijeme už rovných sto rokov. Neexistuje vojna ani väčší konflikt. Len v pamäti máme uzatvorené nepekné spomienky na vojnu. Každý, kto dosiahne určitý vek, sa musí právoplatne začleniť do spoločnosti. Je mi súdené, stať sa lekárkou, hoci k tomu nemám žiadny vzťah. Už to raz tak funguje. Ale stane sa niečo nečakané. AP-R zbrane sú jedinečné. Poháňa ich radiácia užívateľa, práve preto sú tak ojedinelé. No na storočnej slávnosti Kupoly má každý právo vyskúšať si čokoľvek. "Ľudstvo dostalo novú šancu. Výcvik Krotiteľov sa skladá z viacerých fáz. V prvom rade musia nájsť stelesnenie svojej duše, takzvaného Reella. Následne musia absolvovať krutý boj na premenlivom Ostrove, ktorý je pred očami smrteľníkov skrytý tými najmocnejšími čarami. Ak sa do toho zamieša aj tajomná duša z minulosti, ktorá chce zdolať svet, bežná drezúra mladých Krotiteľov sa premení v niečo oveľa väčšie. Hlavne ak nikto netuší, komu veriť a čo majú znamenať temné sily, ktoré kradnú magické predmety, lektorov a zabíjajú mladých Krotiteľov. „Kto je skutočný priateľ a kto len podlá duša, čakajúca na možnosť zabiť nás?"

Linnéa žije v inštitúcii, ktorá sa iba sotva líši od väzenia, takmer celý život. Zo života pred inštitúciou si pamätá asi ako opilec z včerajšieho dňa - matne a zriedka. Každoročne sa uskutočňuje istá ceremónia Znamenitých. Žiadny zverenec v inštitúcii o nej nehovorí, vedia však, že sa tam musia zúčastniť všetky pätnásť ročné deti. Nikto nevie čo sa stane s vyvolenými ani s tými, ktorý ceremóniou neprejdú, no určite to nebude nič dobré. Linnéa zistí že život mimo inštitúciu je zďaleka iný...
