"You and I both know that any girl would kill to be in your position, with me, right now." He smirks, knowing that what he's said is completely and utterly true. Lea Wilson and River Parker don't mix; they don't like the same things, their lives are majorly different. But, what if these two people who are least expected to spend time with each other are doing exactly that? And, not only at school but at home as well. After Lea's house falls apart due to a termite infestation, the Wilson's are invited to stay at an old family friend's mansion of a house. The family friend also happens to be River's father. I'll give you time to digest that information. Yes, you're right. The sarcastic nerd and the egotistical heart-throb live under the same roof and encounter a series of events that make the two do something they didn't think would happen. They grow closer, and closer, and closer, until...well, you'll have to find that out for yourself. Follow them through their adventures of falling in love, getting their hearts broken, and learning lessons that explain there is more to life than they have ever imagined. University friends Luisa and Kay reunite in Nairobi after a year apart to do some feel good volunteering but their friendship and the trip begin to unravel the moment they meet a strikingly handsome British philanthropist and a Ghanaian entrepreneur. In short order the donor funding the project that has brought them together is revealed to be rich and cruel, her interest in coming to Kenya to "help" routed in deeply disturbing ideology. Meanwhile, Luisa must confront her reasons for maintaining her friendship with Kay, her status as heir to a nearly incalculable fortune, her feelings for a man who seems a little too good to be true and the tragedy she left behind back in California. ** A/N This story is a work of fiction, but it's based on things I saw and heard while working in international development for five years. It's my attempt to find the complicated middle ground between those who would idealize international development and those who would condemn it. It's also a place for me to deal with a difficult friendship I had with a friend who was suffering from mental illness. She's since passed away and I'm not sure I ever really got over it. The story isn't at all done so as I'm writing I'm figuring it out too. I've set the story Nairobi and in Kisumu, which is far west of Nairobi. I've picked the title partly because of what Nairobi represents. Nairobi is a throbbing, innovative metropolis situated in a continent that is still viewed very narrowly as a place in need of help.

Facts about Canada, for those wanting to know more about it. I know I like having knowledge about other countries, so I thought I would share my knowledge on my own country. I am also writing this because I notice when books are set in Canada people are confused about the culture and some of the words used.

{WATTY'S 2020 WINNER & EDITOR'S PICK.} Hopeless romantic and aspiring writer Mare Atwood has fallen madly in love with her childhood correspondent. There's only one catch-she doesn't know who he is. When the beaus of Star's Crossing return from boarding school to begin the courting season, Mare is determined to uncover the identity of her writer, flout her family's intentions of orchestrating an advantageous marriage, and procure the life of writing and romance she's always sought. But as in the tales she so adores, it won't be easy. Galas, masquerades, picnics, and hunts-alongside an old friend, a former teacher, and an unlikely ally, Mare delves into an investigation that leaves her torn between three clever, deceptive, and wealthy young bachelors. If Mare can confirm which is her writer and claim his hand before the courting season ends, she'll have her wish: the love of her life, a valuable marriage, and a future of writing romance. But with the eyes of Star's Crossing upon her, a business plot forcing invisible hands, and the unwillingness of her writer to come forward-Mare's future may not end in triumph, but tragedy. Set against the gilded Victorian backdrop of coastal Connecticut and lush with pre-war luxury, fans of Jane Austen, Margaret Mitchell, and Louisa May Alcott are sure to enjoy this lighthearted, lyrical novel of young love, independence, and identity. #1 Literary #1 YA Romance #1 Victorian #1 Lyrical #8 General Fiction
