In the year Year 2289 A.V. (After Void), a once ravaged world is now ruled by an organization called the Rokugatsu Oukoku and one lone man, the world's most dangerous criminal named Izumo the Highlander vows to tear down the system using the very powerful of destruction itself: the Granddamm.

In a distant world called Materia -- inhabited by multiple humanoid species -- individuals gifted with magical abilities are trained by prestiious combat schools in order to hunt and protect the world from its most ancient enemy -- the dangerous otherworldly Demons. When the Great One of the Demons, Demolor, was vanquished at the end of the Great Demon War, the Demon forces were greatly crippled. With the Demons no longer able to return to their full might, a full century of peace came to Materia, while the Tri-Academy Institutions, established after the fall of Chronos Academy during the war, would continue to train future Demon Hunters, in preparation for their ancient enemy's eventual return. However, with peace comes complacency, as corruption and strife began to fester amongst the once united Materians, leading to small-scale conflicts which pitted the Demon Hunters those they once swore to protect. Individuals born with abilities similar to that of the Demons -- now referred to as Forsakens -- were villified and made into scapegoats in the absence of their real enemy. A hundred years after the Great Demon War, one of the Tri-Academies, Eclipse Academy, had accepted three Forsaken students for the first time since its establishment. Yue Aguri, Charlotte Mackenzie and Ayumi Yoshizawa -- three women with different backgrounds and conflicting personalities -- became entangled with one another by more than just the stigma they share. Caught in-between a gang of bullies and their newfound 'prey', a young girl with the gift of foresight, the three girls were forced to work together to stop these elite students who intend to disrupt the peace within Eclipse Academy.
