After her bus breaks down mid-trip, Melanie winds up stranded in a less than reputable neighborhood, surrounded by shady characters. At the same time, young pickpocket Harlan Moore finds himself in a world of trouble after trying to make off with the wrong wallet. With no concept of how dangerous the people around her really are, Melanie sets out for the next bus stop several blocks away. When she stumbles upon Harlan being roughed up by three men, she feels an unexplainable urge to intervene, even if they're all twice her size.
