When Torhild returns home after a two year long training as shieldmaiden she finds out that everything is changed. Not only is her mother queen of Kattegat, also the whole village growed. Some friends are dead, others not around. But their are always Ragnarsons and especially Ivar needs some extra attention, what only brings them both more together.

Hedwig is a young Völva, the Seer of Kattegat who teaches her how to understand her gift. But what she didn't expect would be that she must guide Ivar The Boneless
