What's better than sex? To Naomi, it's going out with friends for delicious food, winning softball games, and having a whirlwind romance with her close friend. The only problem: despite a decade of friendship, she has yet to come out to him as asexual, and she's unsure if romance with an allosexual guy is even possible with the rotten luck she has had. Since Kieran's move to a Canadian city miles away from his unsettling past, life has felt dull. Only the near-impossible dream of hooking up with his friend gives him a spark of energy. After failing to win her affection again, he connects with a stranger in a similar situation whose refreshing honesty and unique perspective on relationships intrigue him. As Naomi and Kieran's paths cross and they help each other with contrasting goals, will they find happiness or will they want more? 4 times featured on the official Romance, Contemporary, LGBTQ, and Stories Undiscovered profiles This book is rated mature as late in the book one character experiences some suicidal ideation (but it is short and there is no attempt).

When Alma, a museum curator at the Met in New York, is assigned an exhibition in partnership with the Prado museum in Madrid Spain she must work closely with the associated director, Carlos Alvarez. This won't be the first collaboration she's had with the handsome Spaniard. Not only does her wealthy Spanish-American family share a history through generations with the Alvarez family, but Alma also has a past with Carlos. While in graduate school, Alma had a passionate affair with her then Professor Alvarez. She installed Carlos in her life for two years, until the shine came off the varnish of their relationship when he returned to his wife and children in Spain. Now Alma is involved in her own complicated marriage with childhood best friend, Mick. With Carlos's return, the pressures mount in both her professional and personal lives, and the picture Alma had in mind for her future begins to change. Just like with portraiture, the faces we show the world may not always reflect the truth beneath the veneer, and sometimes a pretty frame can only contain reality for so long. Whether this period of her life is just a phase or not, she hopes the new one that begins to emerge will be her masterpiece.

I don't know where this is going. I felt like writing about these strange, historic times we're living in. Part of me wants this to be fiction, while the other part of me wants it to be non-fiction. It might just have to be what it is. Just like these times we're living in---it is what it is. We're powerless over this situation but we can find power through story, through exploration, and through surrender to what is.
