Michael Clifford is shy and he doesn't talk to very many people and has only one friend - Ashton Irwin. Michael isn't bullied, people mind their own business because he doesn't bother anybody. He is self-conscious but he isn't self-loathing. Calum Hood is well-liked, but not really popular. He is in advanced classes and is in band class. He's talented at many things and people liked him because he's never rude. But underneath the happy facade lies all the demons he's hidden.

Ashton Fletcher Irwin, son of duke Tomas Irwin, is supposed to marry this year. Suitors are lining up, coming from the farthest corners of the country. He does not want to marry though, and when in a fit of rage he catches sight of a kitchen boy, he thinks he might know why. But the middle ages are hard and Ashton finds himself having to protect the reticent boy from lips that lack chasteness, religion, revenge and sometimes even himself.

Luke Hemmings achieves greatly academically but is very unpopular because of his intelligence, shyness, and the fact that he's well, gay. Michael Clifford rules the school. Has girls falling down at his feet. He isn't very intelligent, but he has never dated either. This gives Luke hope that maybe, because he has never dated, he may be gay. Luke has had a crush on Michael for a couple of years. Michael's best friends, Calum and Ashton, decide to mess with him because they know that Luke likes Michael. They bet money on the fact that Michael couldn't get Luke to date him. Michael finds this hilarious, and takes the bet. He has the time span of a month. During that month, he has to ask out Luke and if he says yes; then he wins. What Michael never realised, is that somewhere deep inside; he was falling for him.

Luke would never hurt his own son. But, can he snap out of his problems before his son's life is put on the line.

Luke Hemmings is from a long line of rebellious humans, who hated all vampires. Instead of accepting the world in which they lived, they decided to rebel against the most powerful species. Since the world has been taken over by the vampires, Luke's existence used to be nothing. A mere disturbance. Why humans kept breeding when violence and death were a normal occasion? Nobody really knew. The humans are a weak, dull, race. Never completely understanding anything, and stopping at nothing to satisfy our greed. When 200 years ago, our greed took us too far. Almost completely destroying the planet in which we lived. Michael Clifford, who had roamed our planet in secret for centuries, finally broke. That is when World War III broke out. When vampires rose to power. Humans fought back, of course. We had outnumbered them greatly, but we were weak. Vampires were the dominant species. And in the end, they won the war; and eventually the world. When Michael was born, being gay wasn't accepted. So, when he took power, he encouraged people to not hide their feelings. Gays had every right a straight couple had. That was the only thing Michael ever did that was good for the humans. If any vampire heard wind of someone insulting gays, Michael would order for them to be killed - or spend the rest of their lives to be used for blood. Michael was ruthless. He killed people when he was mad, and loved seeing people in pain. Being as cold as he was, he fell for a human.
