I rolled my eyes, "Oh please, like any guy would wanna dance with me. I'm a boring, socially awkward nerd that's best friends with two hot popular girls. I'm basically a DUFF".
"Becky and I aren't popular, people just know us and invite us to the best parties", Rachel shrugged.
"Do you know who doesn't get invited to any parties?", I asked but didn't wait for Rachel to answer before I said "Me. Boring and nerdy Marla. I bet it's because I'm a nerd that Trevor broke up with me".
"Marla, if you really are socially awkward and nerdy, I don't think Trevor would've even dated you in the first place".
"I hate him!", I yelled as a tear fell from my eyes "I hate boys! They only want girls with bigger boobs and gorgeous legs, prettier faces and softer, shinier hair! But not girls like me! Not girls that wear glasses and have good grades and wear clothes that aren't as slutty as they want! NOT ME!!!".
Finally I could feel my heartbeat normalize. "Not the old me at least", I said calmly, "I'm different now. Better... and all that stuff is behind me. I'm just gonna have to move on and prove to everyone that Marla the nerd is dead and this is a new better version of her."

Marla Stanley was your average highschool nerd, bullied, insulted, shamed and demeaned for as long as she could remember. Even with two popular best friends, there was little they could do to help her until Marla decided that she's had enough. After a long summer break, she returns, a new being.
This is a story about love, hate, heartbreak, pain, excitement, friendship, betrayal, shame, envy, guilt and the struggles some of us go through as teenagers. People say these are the best years of our lives but it's pretty tough being a teenager even if you're pretty and smart.
