EX has been around for a while, and Xisuma hasn't needed to completely remove him from the Hermitcraft server. Things were going peacefully for a while and nothing seemed to go wrong after Xisuma befriended EX. However, things start going wrong just before the Civil War, and allies are turned against allies and friends.
