A prequel of Watch Me From Afar. In the city of Suwon, Gyeonggi 1976, when South Korea was a complete contrast of what it is today, an unlikely friendship started from the least expected circumstances between 16-year-old Yoon Ji Oh, and 12-year-old Park Hee Jin. The friendship grew into infatuation as they reached the age of 19 and 15. Heads full of dreams, and hearts full of hope as South Korea entered democratization. But everything started to fall apart the moment their widowed parents married each other, effectively making them step siblings. But The Devil Works Harder is a story about a pair of twin flames who never get a chance two grow as life partner. How a pair of teenagers who each has lost a parent, connects from finding the warmth they missed out on growing up, in one another. This is a coming of age story that explores how adolescents - with their growing brain and body - understand the world including the delicate, sensitive parts that come with it and not openly talked about at the time. The story takes place at Suwon, the hometown of Samsung - situated in Gyeonggi province. At the time, Gyeonggi was the industrial backbone of Seoul development, while putting into account the massive economic and political transition of South Korea from an authoritarian-ruled country to democracy. Some mannerisms and dialogs in the story will mirror details of Watch Me From Afar as the interconnected nature of the two lifetimes. This is a work of fiction. Unless otherwise indicated, all events and incidents in this story are either the product of author's imagination used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.

***THIS STORY WILL BECOME FREE ON JULY15th!*** Beverly Curie only lives for herself (and maybe ice cream). When her three nieces are suddenly put under her care, she must do the impossible: think about someone other than herself. Beverly is the only member of her family left in Chestnut Ridge, where she's kept the same routine for eight years: do as little work as possible during the day, marathon sitcoms in the evening, and try (for the life of her) to get everyone to leave her alone. When she loses her position at Red Ribbon's Craft Store, Beverly is left without a job and without a paycheck. Then her estranged sister, Aimee, calls with an impossible favor: Could Beverly take care of her three nieces for six months? It's insane. But then there's the thirty thousand dollars that Aimee offers to pay and Beverly can't resist. Suddenly, she's stuck taking care of three little girls, trying not to kill the soccer moms at the snobby Percival Academy, and joining the PTO. Now Beverly--self-serving, sarcastic, and problematic--must take on the role of a loving parent. And she is anything but.
