Sophie Foster has been at war with herself and her guilt for too long. Until one day, her guilt wins out. But when her sanity is shattered under the mental weight of her guilt, it's different. One by one, she'll begin to forget people. One by one, she'll forget everyone until eventually she'll forget herself. With her very sanity, the entirety of Project Moonlark, and every memory she has ever had on the line, can she forgive herself before it's too late? ~ "Keefe?" Sophie asked softly, watching how the reflected light in the blue of his eyes shifted as he looked down at her. The corners of his lips turned up just a bit more as he looked at down at her. Tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear as he said, "What's on your mind, beautiful?" Pulling the blanket a bit higher against her, he pressed his lips to her forehead. Sophie smiled, a shaky breath falling from her lips. "I'm just... I need you to promise me something." He frowned softly, "What is it?" "Just in case my mind... shatters someday-" "It won't." Keefe cut in, "I won't let it." "Just in case," Sophie whispered, the pained look on Keefe's face made her chest tighten. "Promise me you'll be there for my family and our friends if I can't, you know, be there." A tear traced it's way down her face. Keefe bit his lip as Sophie continued. "And.. I want you to promise me one more thing." She looked down, steeling herself before looking back into those blue eyes. "I want you to promise me that you won't forget me." In the hidden town of Nowhere, Louisiana hides a secret. A secret that's been guarded closely since the founders - a group of rebel slaves possessing the juju - had created the town from the burning ashes of their master's plantation. The secret that's been closely guarded for hundreds of years? A god lives there and protects the town. The rules of the god's blessing are simple: stay within the town's borders and nothing can harm you, never leave the town's magical border, one person in each generation must always give up their magic to re-strengthen the town's barrier, and the most important: never tell an outsider the secret. Fast-forward a few centuries and Lavender Fletch, a descendant of one of the original slaves, is chosen to give up her magic in service to the god. Across the street, Indigo Byrd, moves in. 12 years ago his sister and Lavender's best friend, Violet, disappeared. He enlists Lavender's help in uncovering what really happened all those years ago. Blocked by the townsmen at every turn, they must rely on each other if they are going to find out the truth and escape with their love and their lives intact. Will Lavender give up her powers to the god? Will Indigo ever find out what happened to his little sister? Will they both be killed before they admit that they want each other? And perhaps the most important question, what does the god want with them both?
