BOOK 1 Alyssa has been racing under a fake persona for most of her sporting career after becoming sick of the constant dismissal of her talent because of her gender. Gender clearly didn't play a role in driving ability. In her debut season in Formula 2 in 2018 with ART, she finished a single point behind the championship winner, Nick de Vries. She only seemed to improve and managed to beat her teammate, Robert Schwartzman, for the championship in her second year. Despite this, she refused to take off her helmet and reveal her identity to the world. If it hadn't been for Force India spotting her and recommending the young girl, despite her gender, to be a part of a dominant F2 team, Alyssa would never have made it all the way into F1. The pink team, who were successfully clawing back after a dip in performance, liked to gamble; it was certainly a risk when they decided to promote Alyssa up into F1 as a replacement for Sergio Perez. The Brit was only eighteen years old when Force India told her about Checo's retirement, and how she was to be his replacement. Her ability to maintain her F2 champion status despite filling in for him in the F1 seat on two occasions was a main motivator for the decision. They were aware of her struggles to make it as far as she had done so respected her wishes to keep the helmet on and her identity hidden. It brought them more sponsors than Esteban Ocon, and therefore more money to improve the car - why would they complain? For Alyssa, this was a real chance to prove herself. A woman can and will make it big in a male-dominated sport. But will it pay off when it's lights out? Throughout her life, Diana Greengrass was raised to hate all Muggles and Muggleborns, fear half-breeds such as werewolves, believe that Divination was a useless class, and to detest the idea of romance and falling in love. Although Diana never expected that all her beliefs would change in a single year. That was until she met a mysterious boy in Diagon Alley, named Remus Lupin. It was mysterious, because on their first encounter, only a few weeks before the start of their fifth year, Diana experienced something that terrified her: the moment she accidentally touched Remus's hand for the first time, Diana felt a cold and dark feeling rush through her body. Thinking that the mysterious boy had probably jinxed or cursed her, Diana ran away from him, unaware that the vision she just had was going to change her life forever.

When Rio joined Agatha on the witches' road, she wasn't scared. If anything, she was cocky. The idea of walking the witches' road with her wife again felt like an adventure-an opportunity to be by Agatha's side, even if Agatha clearly didn't want her there. Rio thought it would be fun, familiar, despite the trials ahead. She had convinced herself nothing could touch her. But when the second trial arrived, everything changed. Rio found herself standing on the porch of the only home she had ever known-the home she shared with Agatha and their son, Nicholas. The witches' road was ancient, as old as she was, and it had reached into her mind, plucked her deepest fear from the darkness she refused to acknowledge. It wasn't a monster or some forgotten villain. It was a memory. The memory of the day she lost everything. And in that moment, standing on that porch, Rio realized the truth: for all her bravado, the witches' road knew exactly how to break her. Because the one thing Rio feared more than anything was reliving the day her world shattered.
