[Complete. Wattys 2023 Winner] The Redding takes you if it knows your name. That's the rule that's kept Meg alive --- or awake, rather --- since the night the world went to hell. Nobody knows where the red stuff came from, but it acts like water, it's in the water, and it falls as rain every night. The people it captures drop like puppets with their strings cut. They're asleep, not dead, and they can be reawoken. But then they just try to kill you. Meg and the other survivors she's befriended think they've found a stable equilibrium, six weeks after the catastrophe began. In an empty town, there's not much to do except innovate new survival methods. Meg's crush is the one to discover that Morse Code, like writing, is a safe means of communication. That's all fine and good until the nightly rain begins. Raindrops, as it turns out, can make dots and dashes, too. The Redding can talk. And it's telling her to run. ❖❖❖ Complete. Wattys 2023 Winner. To everyone, Alyssa Woods is known as the friendly, pretty, and tenacious captain of the soccer team. But to her, she's shy, self-conscious, and helplessly gay. Well, a helplessly closeted gay. There are reasons that stop her from coming out, ones she repeats to herself daily, one of her favourites being 'I'm not ready.' The crush she has on Leah Bennett isn't going anywhere at this rate, but she's comfortable where she is; not out, not rejected. She isn't new to heartbreak though, her past scars a constant reminder of the fears that dissuade her from taking the leap. And these very fears are what shoves her further into the closet with each memory and each thought. Taking the risk is the last thing on her mind. But what's life without a little risk? After all, you have to risk rejection to be accepted, or else you just might risk not living life at all. {COMPLETED}

She remembered her scent. It seemed to verify her aura. Her scent was cherry Coke and cigarettes. The latter one was passed onto her, especially after she had handed her her first cigarette only three months ago. Three months was all it took for her to develop that bad habit, but it wasn't the first nor the only one she developed in that period of time. Now she laid on the roof where she had smoked her first cigarette three months ago, and she glanced over at the full can of cherry Coke sitting on the concrete next to her, almost as if it were mocking her. A dull ache formed in her heart, a hollow, resounding ache that penetrated her deepest core. The sudden burning sensation in her fingers made her realize that the cigarette was burned to its very end, and maybe so was she. -♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤-♤- August is attending Cornell University as a creative writing major, and while at a college party her friends dragged her to much to her dismay, she stumbles upon a gang in an alleyway and sees something she shouldn't have. With her life now in danger, she has to deal with the consequences of that night-which includes the leader of the Blue Porcelain gang, Willow, a tall and brooding woman whose green eyes would put the girl in more danger than being caught in a spiderweb of New York gangs ever could. Lily and Carina know a lot about each other, except for, well, each other's names. They've been writing handwritten, anonymous letters to each other for an English assignment for a couple months now and during that time, Lily's developed a genuine interest for a girl who's handwriting resembles a child's first attempt at holding a pencil. But she couldn't be more charmed by it. What happens when Lily unexpectedly realizes that the shy girl in her class who she doesn't know a single thing about has the exact same handwriting as in the letters she anticipates reading every single day? This was originally a camren fanfic. The original author deleted it because of that, so I've reuploaded it with names changed. All credit goes to the original author Jenny (@jaurebellion).
