Eight has lived semi-contentedly for years. All she has ever wanted is to find a way she can obtain happiness while fulfilling her duties as a Worker of the AntWing Colony. So far, that plan has been going swimmingly. Which is to say horrible, because as a dragon who's never even seen the sun (let alone a body of water), Eight can't swim. When her section of Workers reaches maturity they are tasked with a new job: one Eight does not agree with. They have to sire a new generation of Workers for the Colony. She and her best friend devise a plan to escape, but that also backfires - this time, more literally than figuratively... --- Even though this story is rated Mature, it is only for the occasional fight scenes which include enough blood and gore to showcase the reality of fighting. Hawker's entire existence can be boiled down to three undeniable truths: he hates the AntWings, he will do anything to help his tribe, and he will stop at nothing to find his father's killer. So, when given a chance to take part of a dangerous mission, he decides to knock three dragons out with one wing. It's not his fault he ended up questioning everything. --- Even though this story is rated Mature, it is only for the occasional fight scenes which include enough blood and gore to showcase the reality of fighting, as well as mentions of alcohol. Ghost does not know who he is without Lady Atta. Even though they escaped he still acts like her Light, following her to the Poison Jungle. Faced with a war-torn world and uncertainty everywhere he turns, Ghost wonders if he is cut out for the mission his Alate has in store for him. Until now, he has never had a choice. Now that he does, he isn't sure which option to take. Which one he wants. But it isn't Atta who inspires him to act. It's a young AntWing with vengeance on her mind, a dragon he used to detest because she was a better version of him: angry and with a lot to prove, but with the wherewithal to act. He follows her because that is what he is supposed to do - follow and light the way. It's the only life he knows. --- Even though this story is rated Mature, it is only for the occasional fight scenes which include enough blood and gore to showcase the reality of fighting. Rainwind hated lying. Probably because it stemmed deep into her dragonethood. Something she learned and saw as a repeating pattern was that dragons lied all the time. From gems like: "I'm fine," to: "Everything's going to be alright," Rainwind learned at a young age that most dragons were always pretending. Always. Sometimes about how good they were at hunting or one particular flight maneuver or even as far as how they were feeling... They were pretending to others, which often meant that they were lying to themselves. Nothing good became of a liar. Look at what happened to Swansong. . . . It was his sister, Lightningtail. She was shaking his shoulder. He also heard roaring in the background, which alarmed him. "Thunderclap! Hurry! Something's happening!" He sprang out of the nest as if it were on fire. One of the echoes sounded eerily familiar; Thunderclap knew the dragon that was growling and hissing in pain. "Do you know who it is?" he asked, running shoulder-to-shoulder with his sister. "No, but it sounds like..." Lightningtail said as they drew near the crowd. She flapped her wings in the cramped space and peered over the heads. "It is! It's Brisktail! Someone is trying to kill him!" . . . The named dragon straightened as if to look more presentable, but all that did was emphasize his inferiority. His copy of the general's pose at attention was laughable, and Prion felt as if the crowd was enjoying the entertainment. He felt his family's eyes on him and shrank internally at the humiliation he was bringing them. But as the general continued, Prion's posture deflated. Every word punctuated his growing horror: "Your failure to act has resulted in the destruction of the palace and the deaths of many nobles. You have been charged with treason and are exiled accordingly by Her Majesty, Queen Chalcedony. If you wish to return to your place in the Kingdom, Her Majesty will grant you pardon... only if you return with the heart of The Blue Comet in your talons." . . . Most dragons think animus magic is a gift. Opal is one of them. And it's true. But only in the right hands. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Opal learns this when her perfect but old queen dies, and her horrid daughter takes over, all WEEKS before Opal's gifting day. The new queen wants something terrible, and Opal has to give a gift, Or die. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "No, no," I gasped, as my queen lay before me, life slipping out of her like sand through my talons. "I can save you, your majesty, it can be my gift to the tribe. I'll make the sickness go away." I'll make the life come back, she thinks, so that your horrid daughter NEVER becomes queen, so that she can grow up a bit more. She knows that if Sapphire becomes queen now, it won't be good. She'd to young, to scared. She would tear this kingdom apart. "No," rasps the queen, clutching Opal's talons. "I forbid you. You have a gift, and I need you to watch over Sapphire. Promise me you'll care for this kingdom.". Opal can hear the life draining from her, and she knows that the queen will not speak again. She can't refuse the wish of a dying queen. "I promise," she whispers, tears openly flowing from her face. The queen smiles at her, the last thing she will ever do. And the she is gone. Not even magic can bring her back now. Persimmon always knew she was meant for something greater. Her whole life had been the same story. She was surviving off of a risk. Her father would always steal moments to find a way to keep two dragonets alive for seven years. Persimmon's sister, Sangria, was different than her. She sees their father as a threat to their very lives. When danger beckons Persimmon out of the shadows, she must make a choice between avenging her family or focus on a greater threat; a dragon who has been plotting on another continent. Pyrrhia has more than one threat now. A raging war and a potential villain from a different world is the last thing this dragon wants to care about. For now, her duties lie elsewhere -- in the Ice Kingdom. Disclaimer: Wings of Fire is owned by Tui T. Sutherland. This is a fan adaptation of the Wings of Fire universe.
