Twenty-one year old Moira Brown is right in the middle of her sophomore year at Gettysburg College when she meets Bryce Reid, a history major with the mind of a detective. After their first meeting, she never thought that they would be friends, but when he approaches her in the school court yard the next day, she can't stop herself from developing a soft spot for him. To her surprise--and his too--they became the best of friends in a matter of months, and were nearly inseparable.
When Bryce's mother dies unexpectedly towards the end of the spring semester, Moira is right there beside him the entire way, even when he decides to go back home for the weekend to get things straightened out. While staying at his mother's house,
Moira discovers a letter addressed to Bryce hidden away in the book case in her bedroom. Little does she know that what's inside that envelope will take them half way across the world and more than three hundred years into the past.

Aileen Sinclair had always been the peculiar child of her family. While her sisters day dreamed about husbands, she had her nose in a book, learning everything thing that she could. As a child, she had one good friend, Oliver MacGregor, who left home at age twelve to live a life on the sea. Just before he left, the two promised each other that they would learn to read and write so that they would never forget each other. She hadn't heard from him since.
Five years and several tragedies later, Aileen and Oliver reunite. But there's a problem. Oliver is hopelessly in love with Aileen, or at least the girl that he remembered from when he was a child, and would do anything to make her happy. Aileen, however, has her heart set on a day dream of a boy that she once knew. When a young man who bares a striking resemblance to him appears out of the blue, what will Aileen do?
