In a cyber based world, you automatically get entered into a lifelong game of tag at age 16. You start off as a green player, and try not to get tagged. If you do, you have two choices: serve the game as a red player for the rest of your life, or try your luck as a blue player, who has to tag someone else before their life timer reaches 0. Your player type is displayed by your eye colour and a bracelet, which shows off how dangerous you are. Your goal as a green player is to tag 10,000 people, which will reward you with the god status, which turns your colour to gold and grants you immunity from being tagged.
Nahida has just gotten entered into the game, and is immediately met with having to escape encounters with other green players and the dangerous blue players. When she is cornered by three powerful green players, she's suddenly saved by a girl named Emira, who is a blue player that refuses to tag anybody. As Emira's timer slowly ticks down, a friendship blooms, and there are underlying feelings coming up to the surface as tears, sudden bloodshed and romance sparks in the midst of this tagging game.
