Niall Horan, 18, hat alles was man sich nur wünschen kann. Reiche Eltern, viele Freunde, ist der beliebteste Schüler, Basketball Kapitän seiner Mannschaft und sieht extremst gut aus, womit er auch jedes Mädchen bekommt. Doch eins fehlt ihm und zwar die Liebe seiner Eltern und diese lassen sich ausgerechnet jetzt scheiden. Als wäre das nicht schlimm genug, muss Niall dann auch noch mit seiner Mutter vom geliebten Irland ins sonnige Kalifornien in der USA ziehen. Das heißt alles wieder von vorne. Neue Highschool und neue Freunde, die Niall natürlich haben möchte und da ist er ziemlich wählerisch. Entweder beliebt oder gar nichts ist Niall's Motto und das es dort eine Basketball Mannschaft gibt kommt ihm da gerade recht. Für die volle Aufnahme muss er allerdings erstmal eine Wette gewinnen, aber da gibt es ein kleines Problem: Was, wenn das Spiel ernst wird?
