Als hij aankomt in het gigantische huis van zijn nieuwe pleeggezin beseft hij maar al te goed dat zijn leven drastisch zal veranderen. En al wat hij al meegemaakt had eigenlijk niets is vergeleken wat hem nog te wachten staat.

Eligius werkt als kok in het konkinlijk paleis waar hij prins Oscar soms ziet. Hij weet dus hoe de prins eruit ziet en waardoor zijn ogen uit zijn kassen rollen als hij hem in de stad vindt. De prins mag echter niet buitenkomen van zijn ouders, maar het is al lang duidelijk dat de troonopvolger de regels graag breekt.
