From 1994 to 2002, Adonis "Donnie" Creed lived in a group home with his best friends, aspiring drummer Rowan DeLaFontaine and brother-type figure, Golden Gloves champion "Diamond" Dame Anderson, to watch him compete in an underground boxing match. After Dame's victory, Donnie impulsively attacks a man named Leon. Rowan is hospitalized, Dame is arrested while Donnie escapes, running away from the scene. Years later, Dame is a shell of his former self, whilst Donnie is the heavyweight champion of the world. Rowan has found success as a Grammy-winning drummer of an all-girl punk band called the Mystic Rebels. However, Donnie is far from happy as his own marriage is crumbling and his feelings for Rowan are more than just platonic.....
